Women in Nigeria are more than twice as likely to die in pregnancy and childbirth as women in Ghana, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Nigeria came 166th out of 179 countries in the State of the World's Mother's Report of 2015; earning a place in the last 20 countries.

An under-5 year old child born in Nigeria is also almost twice as likely to die as a child in Ghana, Botswana and Kenya.

The 10 countries showing the greatest survival divide between wealthy and poor urban children were Rwanda, Kenya and Malawi – where survival gaps have roughly doubled – as well as Cambodia, Vietnam, Peru, India, Madagascar, Ghana, Bangladesh and Nigeria.

The countries in the bottom 9 are: Chad (172nd), Cote d' Ivore (173rd), Gambia (174th), Niger (175th), Mali (176th), Central African Republic (177th), Congo (178th), and Somalia (179th).


Finally, the best country to be a mother is Norway (in 1st position). The UK and U.S were in 24th and 33rd place respectively.
