The acting Inspector General of Police (IG), Solomon Arase, has called on the Police Service Commission (PSC), to recruit more people into the Nigeria Police, stating that the Force is understaffed.

Arase, who made this call monday during his visit to the Chairman of the commission in Abuja, lamented that about 20 to 30 policemen die on a monthly basis and that no provision had been made yet for their replacement.

The visiting acting IG also complained of stagnation in the Force where he said some officers had been on one rank for upwards of eight to nine years because of non availability of establishment vacancies, a development he said had seriously affected the morale of the officers.

He appealed to the commission to assist the Force in ensuring that more establishment vacancies are created to cater for the backlog of promotions in the Force.

The Chairman of PSC, Mike Okiro, in his response, admitted that Nigeria was under policed and noted that there was need for urgent recruitment into the Force to ensure that the nation is well policed.
