I started noticing that my Rav4 2004 model makes a kpom noise when I apply the gear from park. It does not happen when I put it in Drive, L1 or L2 or Neutral. It does this only when I move from P to R. What can be the issue. Thanks

check ur transmission oil level and scan your transmission .

Ask your mechanic to check your transmission mounts and egine mounts(4 in number).

I experienced it on d 2001 rav4 yesterday....i had to change d brake pads to stop d noise, and also d brake linings cos dat links to d hand brake. And anytime d hand brake is being released from parking position it makes dat noise..... Get ur linings and pads checked...

so sorry i tot its d brake...since its d gear, dat will be d engine seat or gear mount

I discovered that it happens anytime I put the Park before applying hand break. Someone told me to apply the hand break while holding the break before putting a the gear on park, I did it and the noise have disappeared. Remedy, apply hand break before putting the gear on Park. Another noise I don't like is the noise I get when I try moving my car from park, I get one kind of noise like my break is hiting on the break disk, the sound is sometimes loud. I don't know what to do about it.

I can't tell you what the problem is but if your car is on a lift or over those service pits and you do it mechanic will be able to trace the sound you should not be guessing
