Minna—Former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida yesterday, expressed concern over the present situation in the country, adding that it needed the intervention of all Nigerians to join hands with the incoming administration to get the people out of the current problems.

Apparently referring to the acute scarcity of petrol and blackout being experienced across the country, Babangida, however, said that the outgoing administration should not be seen as deliberately punishing the people but rather a trying period for any administration which would come and go.

Farewell visit

Babangida in company of former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar who spoke during a farewell visit to the Niger State governor, Dr. Babangida Aliyu in his house told journalists that he was worried and concerned just like any other Nigeria about the numerous problems confronting the country but added that there was always a solution to any problem.

“I am as concerned about these problems as everyone is. I want Nigerians to support the incoming government in whatever measures it takes to provide solution to the problems on ground.

“Government is doing all it can to make sure these problems, come to an end. We should endeavour to support them during this period,” he said.

The former president noted that every country, developed and under-developed have their peculiar problems which confront them, adding that Nigeria cannot also run away from its own problems which would certainly come and go.

According to him,”every developing country has one problem or the other and there has to be a government to solve such problem because there must always be a government on ground to solve any problem and so, the incoming government will be prepared to face some challenges and also be prepared to solve them.’’

Governor Aliyu in his own contribution said the fuel and power challenges facing the country at this period should not be seen as conspiracy from any group, adding that no individual or group can be so heartless to arrange such things and put other Nigerians in problems.

He attributed lack of rain and gas to the hydro power plants around the country,  adding that the issues would be addressed soon for normalcy to return.

Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar had also called on the governor to share his experience with the incoming administration in order to move the state forward, adding that they, (IBB and himself) were also ready to avail themselves to the incoming administration in the state to ensure development.

Earlier, Governor Aliyu had thanked the two elder statesmen for the visit and their continuous advice which had brought a lot of development and unity in the state and the country at large, adding that whatever actions the elder statesmen had taken over the years should be attributed to their concern for unity and the development of the country.

Lets face it, without the support of a greater percentage of Nigerian people ..... no government can succeed.

A critical analysis of the Nigerian situation should get every concerned patriot disturbed. Unfortunately, Nigerians hardly think beyond their noses.

Oil marketers held a nation to ransom, Nigerians never besieged the marketers depot but rather turned against the govt trying to salvage the situation.

Terrorists attacked our nation, and we turned against the govt and the army while tacitly hailing the escapades of a terror group.

When the west refused to sell us arms to fight terrorism, we hailed the US and blamed our government

When the state governors pocketed allocations and couldn't pay salaries, we let the governors off the hook and turn around to blame the FG

At the peak of scarcity, NUPENG, PENGASSAN went on strike . Labour unions threatened to join as well against the government still letting the real culprits (oil marketers) off the hook.

I think we don't know who the true enemies are.
We seem to be patriotic to our regions alone and not to the common Nigerian front.

Now the real issue is this. ..... just because we lost gas supply and the nation is already in darkness. The drop in crude proces gave rise to salaries being owned across the country.

APC didn't know when to stop campaign after the elections. The outgoing government have been called all sorts of names forgetting that the outgoing govt had 12milliion voters who supported them. 10% or less of that population could hold the country back for the next four years. Bokoharam members are less than 1% of that population yet they held a nation to ransom.

Buhari cannot afford not to get the support of the SS. He has totally disregarded his in-road to that region which is the outgoing president and has allowed his party members grow an apathy with that region with the help of Amaechi.

If any form of violence erupts in the SS under Buhari, even if we mobilize the entire military to the creeks..... say bye to electric power, revenue generation, allocation, salaries and economic growth. Anarchy, inflation and suffering shall follow swiftly. This is because the IOCs cannot continue to produce oil and gas in a volatile region... they will shut in and leave tge fields.

The events of the past few days have shown how vulnerable we are as a country....... and no amount of online noise can douse reality.

Buhari have been given invincible attributes and called omnipotent names....... but reality is coming in few days. He has his work cut out for him but one thing that must not happen is crises in the Niger Delta because that would be the last straw.

However, the final solution to our collective troubles is regional governance and fiscal federalism.

Shallow quotes wont get a response.
