Utter rubbish. When it's done to your mother, it's sweet and kind. But when yoruba elders demand it from you, you cry that they are power hungry -bitches.

Now you see the essence of respect in yoruba culture. Try and go to incoporate that into yours.

BTW, being respectful automatically means that you avoid trouble. Just because learned yoruba do not go about making trouble does not mean we lack liver.
