Wrong move...

Change agents should be careful what they defend as preliminary signs has shown APC/PMB have not done anything worth cheering.

Trash it's clearly shows that u lack common basis economic analysis. If your government is desperately in need of revenue, lifting ban on importation is it the best solution to income generator ? If importation is higher than exportation what do u think it will result to ? Don't you think it's will definitely befall government revenue or income generation. We are talking of how government will boost our economy through diversification . If government encourage small scale industry and we start exporting to other country who will benefit most? Is'nt not Nigeria government....... Must we rely on importation ? Another setback forward change indeed Nigeria has enter one chance
don't mind him... he thinks when we're talking about economy, we're referring to printed money. he's probably among those wondering why the CBN can't print a lot of money if the nation is broke

It's not the best decision, but better the funds coming in into gov't coffers, than custom officers wallet.

It's hard to enforce the ban 'cause of our neighbors.

The onus is on the gov't to vigorously support our own local textile industry, to make importation of some of those material less desirable.

Hell, even make it enticing to invite those Chinese, Turkish, Indian, Swiss, and other manufacturers here.

China, Vietnam and some other countries, are doing the same to American manufacturers and others.

Fool, shut ur trap. Instead of allowing massive smuggling because of the old policy which we give the govt zero income the importers can now come forward cleanly and these goods can be heavily taxed by the govt. These goods invariably will become much more expensive at the local market when compared to the locally manufacturers ones as a result of these tax. Many Nigerias won't be able to afford it which will lead to local options. Local producers will also continue to improve their capabilities to meet up with the imported ones. It's a win win for all.

You are indirectly supporting Jonathan 's method used for subsidy removal that sparked protests.

Instead of blocking the loopholes used by the smugglers, the government is now technically making it a free for all because lifting ban doesn't mean some still won't be smuggled in.

A lazy man's approach IMO.

The CG is a very clever . He brings up this policies for his own selfish motive so that the new govt won't remove him from the position . Where is the money that has accrued to the custom/minisitry of finance when PAAR was introduced last year ?. The CISS still goes into their purse . It's really alarming the way they come up with policies just to raise revenue without multiplier effetct on the economy.

What stops us from bringing in machineries for the production ! A lot of machineries are lying all over japan and china.when machineries are on 0percent. Duty we didn't. Key into manufacturing because no energy to power most of these machineries . One can go on and on to complain . The nigerian state is at its nadir

Another blow to our small and scale medium enterprises. Imagine Nigeria we continue becoming dumping ground for oyinbo while that of our small industry will keep scrolling.
Ghana and Bene has always been the dumping ground for oyinbo still Nigeria is not better than any of them.

Actually it's good for a govt looking for serious income not to block such knowing fully well that they can annex that angle to generate funds. Some will still be smuggled but unlike before govt gets more pay. There is no cartel of such in this unlike what we have in the oil industry. It's different to me.

How does the petroleum industry (crude in Nigeria, with refineries and land to build more) equate to imported textiles?

How's that got to do with smuggling finished goods into the country through Niger, Benin, and others?

Apples and oranges . . .

It is similar....subsidy got out of control not because of failed refineries but because of fraudulent practices.

Lifting of ban on textile, others will be tragic for local industries, what the government should focus on is how to revive the wobbling industries ...

I'm sure the last time you wore local fabric was as a family christmas uniform when you were ten, so why the heck about local industries? If you produce a good that doesn't meet a need with regard to pricing, quality and acceptability, how do you expect to survive competition? The earlier we recognise that we can't wish away the opportunities and threats of globalization, the better for us all. My only concern is having to strike off yet one way of a mass job generation.

this new policy is a regional one for ecowas member states , which means u can import textiles from ghana, benin and niger and as well export to those countries . The bottom line is , some companies may decide to establish in the region but they will choose the safest and most business friendly enviroment to do that.

It is actually opposite.

Imported goods (with no subsidy) 'coming in' through porous borders vs Subsidized refined petroleum products (both local and imported) 'going out' through porous borders/inimically dubious means.

Why are you speaking from both sides of your mouth instead of calling a spade by its name? One of Buhari's cardinal points during his campaigns was to revive the moribund textile industry. He specifically mentioned the comatose Kaduna textile industry. Why the sudden policy Summersault? Let's stop commenting like the average Nigerian politician.
