American horror movies are so dumb.

Get some dumb "hot" girl
Have her frolicking around
Find some creepy ass house, have no ideqa who/what lives there
Decides she's gonna take a shower cos she's "dumb and hot"
Get chopped into pieces cos despite being "hot", we cant forget that she's daft

How about the ones that don't necessarily involve h a c king or sawing a group of teenagers to death? Which kind do you prefer? Kawasaki horror movies? tongue
I can't believe the word h a c king is not allowed on NL. undecided

I noticed that myself hence my use of "chopping" instead. so lame

anyway Asians are definitely better at that genre. Americans have VERY few that I like ie The Others, etc. Some Japanese directors do the whole "unnecessary gore" thing but for the most part esp the Koreans, there's nice and subtle and VERY creepy. Love it.

You should watch The Eye. Not that POS remake with Jessica Alba angry

Tale Of Two Sisters is a great one from Korea.

He's a slasher fan, obviously. Funny tho.
Spiked you have not seen OMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked
Being traumatized by that movie was virtually a rite of passage for kids in the eighties! How could you have missed it?
Ah please watch it o, especially that horrendous part 2. I'm not sure it'll scare as much now, but man, that movie is the most horrible thing I ever saw as a kid.

"The Others" was scary . . . after finding out they were dead, I couldn't help but think it was a subtle rip off from "Sixth sense"
Your def right about the "unnecessary gore" in most American so-called-scary movies. I'm not sure what made hollywood start churning out these kinds of movies on the regular . . .

I just might get up the nerve to watch this Emily Rose afterall.
My secret weapon when watching any scary movie  cool  instantly eliminates about 70% of the fear grin  then if the scene was that good, I rewind and watch with the sound, that way I already know whats coming so I'm not as scared . . . lol

Believe it o. In school we're all like, Have you seen OMEN? Part 1,2 or 3? All Omen-traumatised kids would huddle together and discuss the horror. We didn't talk too loud or the Omen guy might hear. It was like a support group.

oyb, you've seen it. Tell her. And while the effects may be dated, you know that movie can never be silly, can never not scare. It's not for children at all.

The Others isn't horror na! It's a thriller. Haunted House? lipsrsealed lipsrsealed

Re: Favourite Horror Movies. . . . by kay9(m): 3:31pm On Mar 04, 2009
I've got two remarks:

1. It's kinda strange that Sisikill hasn't reported to this thread, what with its title and gory contents and all - or has she gotten her fine behind banned again?

2. It's also interesting that most of y'all who say you couldn't sleep, was so scared, etc., after watching a horror flick are females. Now, before y'all un-hatch your hatchets and h a c k me to death, THAT WAS JUST AN OBSERVATION, NOTHING MORE! Hmm. grin

Now, i dont know if this applies to anybody else, but i can't recall any "horror" film i didn't have a sound night's rest after watching; fact is most of them bore me these days - the whole Freddy/Jason wagon, Alien (1,2,3, and AVP), Evil Dead, Scream, The Shining, (personally I think Shining was stupid, but hey thats just my opinion wink ), The Ring, The Exorcism - um, ok the Exorcism gave me some food for thought, but that was it.

Funny enough, its the non-horror ones that keep me awake late into the night. Movies like The Ghost and The Darkness (pair of lions chewing up folks somewhere in East Africa), The Last Don (i keep replaying in my head that scene where Pepe strangles that fella, whatis name, Dante's father), and The Terminator (just the first flick, mind; Judgement Day was ok shaa, but that last one would've done better as a cartoon).
You know, in my opinion Terminator I was a horror film - sure scared the shit outta me when I first watched it back then. I mean, you take one look - just one look! - at this dude and you know he's got only one thing in mind - to put as many lead shots into you as possible, and every last bit of him is aware and committed to that bizness. Jeepers.

You accidentally managed to watch a gazillion horror Movies, and you accidentally couldn't keep away from even a remake! You're like some horror film afficionado. You can't help yourself. But you know, no remake can match those originals.
The Ring had been lying about my apartment for a long time. So I called a few friends over. I can't watch horror stuff alone. I tried muting the music, but everybody screamed blue murder so I had to leave it on. It wasn't so bad. Only two genuinely creepy scenes; when the girl comes out of the screen at the end. And the contents of that tape. Now I use the word 'demonic' rarely indeed. Few things qualify.Madonna's Frozen video, say. The Ring tape, which kills them after they watch it,totally qualifies. Look at those images and tell me they're not. The one that chilled me the most was the deformed, limping goat. Evil evil evil!
