The Commissioner of Police in the FCT, Mr Wilson Inalegwu, says the police have impounded two vehicles fitted with a large drum each for use in the illegal sale of petrol.

Inalegwu told newsmen on Thursday that two suspects had also been arrested in connection with the crime, saying that each of the drums could take up to 200 litres of petrol.

He said that the suspects and the vehicles were apprehended at a filling station in the Central Business Area by a task force against the illegal sale of petrol and sundry crimes in the FCT.

The task force comprises the police, military and paramilitary personnel.

“Sale of fuel in jerry cans is banned; but we have observed that some individuals continue to sell fuel in jerry cans and have turned their cars to fuel tankers, which is against the law. “And this endangers lives and property. Now there are those two vehicles there fitted with drums and the manner in which these drums were wielded is alarming. “Those two cars you see, if anyone of them is driven into object, it can cause serious mayhem, it can cause fire outbreak that can lead to loss of lives and property. “So, all we want to say is that these things are criminal acts that must be avoided by all.“

Inalegewu, who is the chairman of the task force, also said that the team had impounded more than 4,000 motorcycles from commercial operators who were found to have operated in the city centre illegally.

He reiterated that the ban on the sale of petrol in jerry cans within the territory was still in force, and called on Nigerians to maintain orderliness in the territory to reduce crime. (NAN)

Shebi na police and not Nigerian soldiers.

The culprits should just fold their hand and drop some cash into the police's pocket. That will be the end of the impoundment
