The government of Imo State Owerri, recently took a drastic measure to sanitize her environment and safeguard the life of its people.. Today, the Tafia Teamwhile taking a walk around town (The states capital, Owerri) Amawire, popularly known as Bishops Court, where most students of the Imo
State University resides, visited the students market as claimed by some students of the institution and discovered it is no longer what it used to..

The usual ever busy environment, was filled with sorrow, calmness and grudges on the face of the traders as they lamented and cried to the Imo State Government.. an interview with some of the traders revealed that their shops were demolished upon the receival of the information for them to evacuate the place within the stipulated period of just two days..

"We were all in our shops doing the usual business transaction when some government officials came with heavily armed military and paramilitary men only for them to ask us all to remove our shops with immediate effect, we thought it was a joke, before we could even verify the authenticity of the information, the same people came two days after and ordered us all out of our shops, bulldozing and raising it to the ground with their caterpillars.. They didn't even give us time to pack our things.." A trader lamented to the Tafia Network Team..

According to a government insider,
"The Traders were informed earlier on to evacuate the place as they were trading under the high tension wire popularly known as powerline.. to safeguard their own lives and the lives of every other students in the Bishops court environment"

Different strokes they say for different folks, While some say the developpment was welcoming, others complain the Government was heartless and just wanted to punish the traders.. well, thats Naija for you..

More images of the demolished market to be released soon..

yes, in as much as it is for the safety of the traders, they are supposed to be given notice about the demolition.

secondly the govt is supposed to provide an alternative site for them, before the demolition.

For God's sake these guys are struggling to survive
