What can one do without water? Absolutely, nothing! Certainly, these are terrible days for Puerto Rico

A prolonged drought has depleted lakes and forced water rationing on nearly half of Puerto Rico residents, who are counting on dredging and divine intervention to replenish the island's reservoirs.

The five-month drought proved dangerous Friday when low water pressure hampered efforts to control a fire in San Juan. The blaze destroyed four homes and injured two firefighters.

Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla declared a state of emergency. As a result, officials have imposed strict water rationing which further makes it very challenging to get some water to drink, not to mention taking daily showers, washing cars, etc. These are luxuries!

Its down south in the Atlantic. Puerto Rico was on Aljazeera recently over the socioeconomic woes they face. The island is heavily indebted.

it is not economically viable to desalinate salt water.... the financial cost and energy cost is just too high... but with time as fresh water continue to run dry and droughts become more widespread, man will develop more efficient ways to purify seawater....

The overwhelming dependence on crude oil as the major source of foreign exchange income has really affected the production of palm oil in Naija. If Malaysia who came to Naija in 88 to learn about the produce and borrowed a few nuts could be the world's largest exporter of the produce how much more this fraud of a country that has the resources in abundance... Our leaders need to invest heavily in resuscitating the potentials of this produce...
