omenka: I must say its quite sad and pathetic to imagine you didn't read before commenting. Anyway let me help you out. The crude is sold for about $57 per barrel and the subsidy figure stands at the current price. Now what you don't know is that the subsidy cost will increase as the crude price increases. At some point in the last govt life, crude hit like over a $100 per barrel and that means during those periods they are paying almost double what is currently being paid if we assume there is direct variation between the crude price and subsidy payment (even though this might not been so but whatever, there is sure to be subsidy increase as crude price increases.) In the life of this govt too, should crude price rise in the international market there is bound to be rise in subsidy payment and your stipulated estimate of over $500bn fade into insignificance with time. If the crude price increases far beyond what it is now, the govt might end up overtime pay close to/more than the $1tr past govt paid. This reason is basically why it is difficult to accurately budget for subsidy as crude price is a fluctuating figure that is difficult to be accurately predicted. Hope you have been enlightened. It is not everything people in the past govt said that are necessarily false. Sometimes ago you had believe as told that subsidy was fraud but you can see now that there was no fraud in it but pure propaganda the opposition party uses in winning election. Hope you will have patience in reading through. You need to be able to read to really be thoroughly learned. 6 Likes |

bushdoc9919: Thank you for your comment. We are paying double fuel subsidy at the moment. Nigerians are paying since the filling stations are not selling at the official subsidized rate of N87/L and the government is also paying N42.35 on every single litre consumed per day. (40 Million Litres/D) We can't continue like this... 1 Like |

Firefire:#1.6b daily is less than #600b in a year. The otuoke goat spent over 2trillion naira in one year on petrol subsidy. We are yet to also forget the #3trillion kerosene subsidy. Foolish hypocrite wanting to blackmail a government which is less than 3months by justifying the cankerworm that milked us dry for 6 solid years. |

The simple thng is to remove the subsidy as Jonathn planned. Nigeria will tighten their set belts. The govt should add he subsidy cost to other budgeted cost nd refurbish all our refineries. All heir capacities cn be incresed if our govt can be honest for once. Igbo ga-adiriri. Visit the 1st Igbo blog www.odeniigbo..com |

49cents: point of correction ....its not Nigerians its some group of sophisticated ones ..pls in east and some south south region they have been buying pms 100 for more than 3 yrs and you do not have ar noise I keep saying let the market forces which is demand and supply determine the price of pms et al. there must be an equilibrium price it's just stupid for any idiottt to assume the price of pms will be the same in Lagos delta Kano and sokoto where do you factor the logistic costs and other overhead 2 Likes |

onatisi:Actually Bubu said he does'nt understand what subsidy is all about; meaning he believes subsidy must be some kind of scam. Today he's singing a different tone contrary to what he stood for before the elections. Because of desperation for power, they made some Nigerians believe that Subsidy does not exist. They exploited the ignorance of Nigerian populace to scam their way to power. |

What happened to the "change" you championed ? is it still on his way If close to 2 months of Buhari's administration you still can't make any point without referring to GEJ, then why the hell do you think to have a "new" president ?
