Nigeria Boko Haram Areas To Get $2bn In World Bank Aid' by dayo23(f): 9:38pm On Jul 21, 2015
The World Bank has pledged $2.1bn (£1.4bn; €1.9bn) to help rebuild north-eastern parts of Nigeria, wracked by years of Boko Haram militancy, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari says.
Mr Buhari was speaking in Washington after talks with World Bank officials.
He said priority must be given to rebuilding infrastructure and helping those displaced by the conflict.
Mr Buhari has pledged to defeat Boko Haram insurgents who have killed thousands in Nigeria since 2009.
More than a million people have also been displaced by the insurgency.
On Monday, US President Barack Obama pledged his support for Mr Buhari in the campaign against Boko Haram. The US has committed $5 million (£3.2m; €4.6m) to the fight against the insurgents since the Nigerian leader was elected earlier this year.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Mr Buhari urged the World Bank to send a team to Nigeria to assess how to spend the funds.
The money is expected be given in the form of a loan which will be interest-free for the first 10 years.
BBC Africa editor Richard Hamilton says extreme poverty and neglect in north-eastern Nigeria is thought to have fuelled the rise of Islamic extremism and given Boko Haram broader appeal.
Mr Buhari also met representatives of the World Health Organization and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to discuss measures to tackle malaria and polio.

This is a loan that the whole of Nigeria will surely pay back. This is what Buhari went to America to do, to ask Obama help solicit for a hefty loan from world Bank to use repair the region of his kinsmen. The region they collectively destroyed with their own hands while in desperate need of power.

When Buhari is through with his tenure and rebuilding his region to Dubai standard, Nigeria will be debt ridden, cash strapped and even Burkina Faso will come to our aid.

Are the going to rebuild the NE in the middle of war? I thought rebuilding would only come in after the insurgency have been quelled.BTW the SE is still awaiting rebuilding 45 years after the civil war

Who built South East after the civil war? Who built Niger Delta after the militants show? Why is the injustice in Nigeria growing ?

Wouldn't he focus on Ending the war against Boko Harem first?
More like putting the cart before the horse.

Robbing Peter (Nigeria) to pay Paul (North) .
This is truly government of the North

Now Buhari has indebted Nigeria in a subtle manner. If i call am dullard now dem go say I dey insult am. How can he take this wrapped glittering poison? Who does that? Is he not aware what Greece and other countries are facing?

Why is the whole of Nigeria going to pay for the misdeeds of a jihadist sect fuelled by same APC just to malign and score political point?

Even if he wanted to take a loan or seek assistance in rebuilding, common sense should have told him to look the Chinese and Russian way rather than imperialist USA and their cronies.

When GEJ totally sidelined America and decided to deal with others we knew we had a president that could look at Obama in the face and called him bluff. Now we have a dullard supported by a massive movement of fanatics and illiterates who celebrate the visit of Buhari to Obama as the best invention after jollof rice. It's embarrassing seeing them glee over pictures and promises. Same way Obasanjo rubbed shoulders with then and gave bakassi away!
