President Muhammadu Buhari in Washington on Tuesday invited American business people to come and invest in Nigeria by taking advantage of the liberal trade and investment climate in the country.

The president, who gave the challenge at a business forum organized by the United States Chamber of Commerce and the Corporate Council on Africa, said his administration would go ahead with the ongoing privatization programme with improved moral architecture.

According to him, the privatization exercise will be expanded to include aviation, telecommunication, energy, gas, solid mineral, health and infrastructural development.

Buhari also enjoined the business communities in the United States and Nigeria to take advantage of the excellent political relations between the two nations to expand trade and investment activities including joint venture projects in priority sectors of the Nigerian economy.

He said: “It is my intention to create the necessary environment for future investment in Nigeria. We are the most populous nation with the largest market in Africa with vast human and natural resources and blessed with abandoned young skilled workforce.

“We are therefore proud candidate to become the destination of choice for United States investments in Africa.

“I work assiduously to welcome new investors to ur country.
“I will like to remain you all that we are continuing in major privatization programme with sectors ranging from telecommunication energy, gas, solid minerals, aviation, health and infrastructural development but with improved moral architecture.“

Privatisation has started since Obj and GEJ continued in the power sector...... nothing new this time.

One will think Buhari will do something different after faulting every move of the ex-govt.

But which telecoms sector is being referred to here, is this different from the already privatized one?

That of solid mineral and energy is a welcome development.

But privatization of health and infrastructure is unacceptable. This is like a govt trying to run away from its responsibility.

How can poor Nigerians pay for medical services when its privatized? A glimpse is the cost of private hospitals compared to the public ones. There is no insurance coverage for the Nigerian masses and privatizing the health sector is like signing a death warrant for the poor Nigerians.

How can a responsible govt privatize infrastructure as a key policy. That means all government roads will be tolled, all infrastructures which were hitherto free will now be concessioned and everything will have to be paid for by masses whose minimum wage is 18K.

..... They better be joking.

Simply saying " i want to privatise Nigeria" would have saved him a lot of time and stress.. Does PMB even knw the implication of Privatising everything in Nigeria?

Seems you've not expanded your horizon?

Do you have any idea how much people in the west pay for health insurance? How much it costs to see a DR for just a minor complaint?

Do you pay taxes? Do you like the fact that our hospitals have become little more than places where people go to die?

Go & read up about medicaid in the US & the NHS in the UK, & when you are done, do a lil research about what it costs to have your garbage hauled away & be able to park in the streets...

Then we can talk...
