The hustle is real bro. That's what I tell those who care to listen. Don't compare yourself who went to sch abroad with scholarship or community funds with those who went to sch abroad cos it was the only option they had considering their wealthy family status and reputation.

Cos you will still come and hustle for job with Osu poly graduates. No offence to osuites pls.

If this is true then your friend needs to be shot in the head for being dumb.

With that 15M think of the business opportunities he would have created for himself.

Lots of envious vexed comments on this thread, why na?! cheesy

I know the quality of education overseas is much better than what Nigerian universities offer but anyone travelling abroad for a degree should not expect to automatically receive a job offer on a platter of gold, neither should you have a sense of entitlement cos frankly the job market in Nigeria is over-saturated.

As others have rightly said, it is all about the VALUE you can bring to the company (it is up to you to demonstrate that during your interview, your degree alone will not do it for you).
And yes, experience does count.

So they should offer him better pay than those with equal qualifications that graduated from naija unis?

If hewas complaining about genral poor wages then I am with him. But to demand higher pay cis he studied abroad.......

His qualification from above is superior to the qualification from Nigerian universities.

Get that in your head ASAP!

Westerners have discovered how crazy we are as a Nigeria youths when it comes to courses that reflects oil and gas. In view of this, they manufactured different courses in UK universities that para - phrased oil and gas. Believe me I have been working in oil and gas industry now close to 10 years, neither Bsc in oil and gas nor Msc are totally irrelevant career pathways to the industries. To youths that care to listen, working for oil coys is a dream that is worths pursuing but for you to sell better venturing into courses like Chemical engineering, Marine engineering, Subsea Engineering, Offshore and pipeline engineering, electronic and electrical engineering and mechanical engineering. Oil and gas industries are machineries based economy where there's room for engineers to maintain, repairs and operates.

It's high time govt ban nigerians who obtain degrees in foreign universities from getting jobs in Nigeria so as to encourage patriotism. there are graduates in nigerian universities without jobs.

He got a distinction in uk shouldn't make him expect better pay than those who do their masters here . If someone can get distinction in nigerian And be offered a poor pay then he shouldn't expect better . Getting a degree in University of Ibadan still have more credibility here in Nigeria than some of those UK universities .
Give a valid example or stay silent...No university in UK can run a degree programme if it doesn't meet the required international standard(or do u think the hell Nigerian universities (including UI which I am an ALUMNI) put their students through is the yard stick for measuring quality education), U think UK is Nigeria where a secondary school can easily upgrade to become a university over night.. They have laws and rules that they abide by..so stop mislesding people on this thread pls..

Our generation starting to understand we have been scammed

Real scam.

I met a friend of mine who resigned from her banking job to go for her MSc in the UK. I asked her why she didn't stay back there to secure a job and she gave me a frank analysis of the situation.

According to her, there are about 3-4 categories of competition in her class.
1. The white British citizen who is brilliant in class
2. The black British citizen who was born and bred in the UK, also brilliant in class
3. The black Nigerian like herself who left Nigeria for the purpose of her MSc, also brilliant in class
4. Other non British citizens from all over the world who like herself have also come for their MSc.

At the end of the day, they all get to apply for the same jobs and the screening begins. So she would rather get her degree there and come back to Nigeria to hustle with it while also applying for jobs outside Nigerian shores. The typical mentality seems to be that any foreign 'pali' is better than the best Nigerian 'pali'.

I was at a career talk given by Dr. Wasiu Odufisan, a senior recruiter for ExxonMobil and he said recruiters have come to understand that most students now know how to pass exams and have first class degrees while not really understanding what it takes to add value to a company. He lamented so much on the situation.

I feel for the guy/lady who has gone abroad to acquire a certificate for the purpose of getting a job in Nigeria. They may just realise that they were under an illusion at the end of the day.

Virtually nothing is guaranteed in this world we live in, talk less of Nigeria.

One young Nigerian share a sad reality of some Nigerians who travel abroad to study and come back home to a salary that can barely keep you going for a week.

He goes further to talked about a friend who graduated with distinction in Masters from a UK University only for him to be offered a N50,000 a month job when he came back to Nigeria.

Why the tears?
How many Nigerians do UK and other parts of the world graduate every year?
So because you paid 5M for fees then they should give you 1M salary?

On a serious note you can as well gather some more money and start up your own business...
you think 1million will start an oil and gas company undecided its the spirit of poverty thats in some Nigerians that keeps the nation in the pit of darkness. How will the economy grow is all everyone in the country does is small businesses? undecided how will other industries grow if you dont make sure there are competent people are being renumerated pro rata to services rendered.
