It happened that Onwueme Okereke was born to the family of three. During those days, pregnancy was quite hard for his mother. She had several miscarriage. Majority of the ones she gave birth to died without being sick. Among the three surviving children she had. Onwueme was the last. His elder brother got married when Onwueme was twenty three years old. Their only sister Obiaranamma was the first to get married. Later, it happened that there was no money to cater for the expenses, pay the bills and eat. Amandianaeze the father in law of Obiaranamma made arrangement with the slave traders. They received a very tough beating of their lives. As they was dragged, they cried out for mercy. Ikeogu had earlier planned to escape, he was going to process it when all the guards fell asleep.

At midnight, he loosed himself from the chains and ran away like a man running a three hundred metre race. He was pursued immediately by the guards. He ran hysterically through the valley of darkness. He had no sense of direction. He just ran to escape his adversary. Each step seem to him to take him deeper and deeper into worsening labyrinth of the jungle. He was broken down by despair. He could feel the breath of his pursuer. Hot on his neck. What was worse, his feet kept getting entangled in the undergrowth tripping him. Suddenly,..........continue Reading by clicking on the link below:
