Honestly the negativity from this man (OBJ) is becoming silly. Is this a smoke screen or are these guys just trying to hoodwink us.
We are hearing all sorts of rumours and outright lies... here is one from OBJ

This thread seeks to counter the lie from this thread here:

Here is the link to news on he newly commissioned Kano to Port Harcourt Rail line.

http://www.channelstv.com/2015/07/24/kano-port-harcourt-train-services-begin/

LET THE LIES AND MISINFORMATION STOP!!!!

The mixed service train will leave Kano to Port Harcourt every Thursday and from Port Harcourt to Kano every Tuesday.

At the commissioning ceremony of the new trains in Kano on Thursday, the Managing Director of the Nigeria Railway Cooperation (NRC), Adesiyi Asijuwade, said train services in Nigeria was back on track.

The first Kano-Port Harcourt mixed train services was in 1914, technically carrying both passenger and goods from the north to southern part of Nigeria.

However, in view of the ongoing efforts by the NRC, train services are now being resuscitated in phases across Nigeria.

Two 68-seater air conditioned modern first class passenger couches had been put in place to traverse a rail distance of 1,139 kilometres, stretching from Kano to Port Harcourt, with stops at some cities across Kano, Kaduna and Benue among other states in the south.

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, represented by the Speaker State House of Assembly, Alhassan Doguwa, assured the corporation of the State government’s continued support and patronage.

At the event, the Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sunusi II, urged the management of the NRC to ensure continuity of the train services at an affordable price in order to allow free flow of economic exchange between the south and northern parts of Nigeria.

“We are indeed happy that train services from Kano to Port Harcourt have returned and we pray that Allah will ensure the continuity of the program and may it be a source of our economic strength,” the Emir prayed.

During the British colonial era, train services were regular and one of the best means of transportation in Nigeria, but lack of maintenance of the infrastructure led to a huge setback in that sector, forcing business owners to rely solely on the use of trucks for the movement of goods from one part of the nation to the other.

The dearth in the sector further affected the movement of agricultural produce from farm settlements that were located in towns where the rail line traverse.

The resuscitation of the train services will no doubt bring succour to farmers that may need to move produce from Kano to states along the rail line and in southern Nigeria

What is silly in pointing out the stupidity in putting outdated but new trains on 150 year old tracks and calling it transformation. That Goodluck could only fool people from a certain part of Nigeria and people of a certain age group.

The Emir of Kano was on board the train with his last son, however because people like you will never believe that GEJ did anything but(according to your hateful ideologies) "loot", that is the web page I got the picture you claim I cropped.

I agree that the train provided by this last government is not up to the standard in 1st world countries but for the fact that President Goodluck Jonathan rehabilated that sector, to me its a pass mark to his administeration. I would want this present government to improve on those little achievement as they (APC) would always paint it. So APC guys, make una make sure sey na pressurize na man make him surpass Jonathan.

What is silly is thinking that the everything was for human traffic.
Did it occur to you that the trains were mainly for agricultural and raw material haulage back then?
Now you say they are outdated, were you expecting magnetic elevated trains on the 150year old tracks??
Your anger has betrayed your intelligence.
Here is a diesel train currently used in York UK.
Mind you it is " modern " to use your term.

Now compare the train from York with Nigeria’s "outdated" train as you say...
Now repeat after me, " GEJ worked!!"

The rail lines are substandard, the trains despite moving at snail speed still end up derailing. There is so much evidence here on nairaland about personal encounters especially on the Port Harcourt - Enugu line.

Let's call a spade a spade and stop this photo tricks, Port Harcourt - Enugu by road is 4 hours, take the train and be on for longer shows the rot.

Obasanjo got it here, do not rehabilitate tracks made in 1914 instead do new ones.

PMB has dealt with NNPC. He should now turn his search light on NRC. The board and management should be replaced because of their ineptitude with well-trained technocrats that can run the corporation properly. sad

You must be very silly indeed to describe this train as 'a diesel train currently used in York UK'
That train is nothing but antique and museum piece dating back to the 1950's and whose purpose is to show to citizens and visitors how it feels to travel in the locomotives of those days. You must be really deluded to think this is what is being used in UK in this day amd age - even though it is still a lot far better than what you call 'trains' in Nigeria which would not even be permitted to carry animals in some parts of the world. And to be candid many of these so-called 'new' Nigerian trains would never be allowed by the British police department to carry their horses!
