Of all weapons of war and violence, Nuclear Weapon is the greatest, most destructive device with the longest time of negative impact on the environment and lives.

What is a Nuclear Weapon?

Wikipedia defines Nuclear weapon as an explosive device that derives its destructive force from nuclear reactions, either fission (fission bomb) or a combination of fission and fusion (thermonuclear weapon).

With the knowledge of its’ super catastrophic capabilities, very few countries will wish that anybody or country have in possession such a weapon of mass destruction.

Reports says the release of one of such devices alone is capable of pulling down a great city of several hundreds of kilometres radius.

Hiroshima as a Case Study

A critical example was an incident that happened in August 6, 1945, during World War II (1939-45) when an American bomber dropped the world’s first nuclear bomb in Hiroshima Japan, even as this article is written the after effect of that bomb is still been felt in Japan.

Report said immediately after the bomb was detonated over the city, 90% of the city was destroyed, about 80,000 people died immediately, tens of thousands died later of radiations and related chemical effects.

About 3 days thereafter, another such bomb was dropped in another Japanese city called Nagasaki wasting about 40,000 people and leveling the city. This made the then emperor of Japan to surrender and call off the war on the 15th of August.

Nuclear Weapon is not a device for growing countries or countries without the temperamental muscles to keep and maintain even in times of adversities and temptations.

Little wonder the world powers are keen on who should or shouldn’t possess it.

Countries all over the world itch to have theirs as a defense and security fortification, however, owning one is expensive and full of worries aside the friction from other countries regulating the license to possess it.

Countries That Own Nuclear Weapons at the Moment.

Of the total of 196 countries making up the whole world, only 9 of them possess Nuclear Weapons. Here are the countries and their arsenal capacities:
