Buhari is a northerner to the core. His real character is what he portrayed himself to be before the merger with the ACN. Everything else that followed was a fake, repackaged candidate that was primed to win an election. The real Muhammadu Buhari is that same man that told the north to only vote for their own. One of the reasons I never supported him was the behaviour of some of his supporters down here. To them, it was either Buhari or what happened post-2011 was going to repeat itself. And I made up my mind that I would not vote for someone because of the fear of what would happen if he lost.

I was having a discussion with a friend about the civil war and the continued agitation for Biafra. What she said was an eye opener. A core northerner believes that only a northerner is sincere, trustworthy and capable. He would rather trust a dying northerner with anything, than give it to someone else.

The next appointment may be different. But that would be done to calm the storm a little bit. Deep down, Buhari is still who he was before the cosmetic packaging.
