If I recall correctly, an Australian investigator noticed from one of their videos that there were many other Boko Haram members who look like Shekau. The real Shekau could have been killed years ago, but his lookalikes would quickly take over and still answer the name "Shekau" just to strike fear and confusion into everybody's minds. When the lookalike is killed, another one takes over again and the same process continues...
