An 11-year-old girl allegedly raped by her stepfather has given birth to a healthy daughter in Paraguay, it has been reported.

The youngster was found to be pregnant after arriving at hospital with her mum in May complaining of stomach pains.

On examination, a 21-week pregnancy was established.

The girl’s pregnancy was the result of having been raped by her stepfather, according to Amnesty International.

The girl’s mother had wanted an abortion but Paraguay has some of the strictest abortion laws in the world.

In Paraguay, abortion is only legal when the life of the woman or girl is at risk.
