Nigeria is home to some of the world's most toxic chemicals used in agriculture today. Many of them have been banned internationally. We risk eating pesticides in our food everyday. 95% percent of cow pea eaten in Nigeria are treated with pesticides. Many of those applying these chemicals are never trained to do so. The alarming thing is that they have access to many dangerous chemicals to apply. One of such chemicals is calcium Carbides used in ripening of fruits. Almost all pineapple are induced with this chemical to harvest them simultaneously...pineapple ripens at different times. This chemical is now actively been used by all fruit vendors to force ripen their fruits.
