I was taken aback by the report that the Nigerian army is currently screening and recalling solders who were facing various punitive measures for disobeying command.

https://www.nairaland.com/2538811/army-screens-recalls-dismissed-soldiers/4#37181508

Except perhaps the dismissed solders worked for APC and are now being rewarded for a job well done, this will be setting a dangerous precedent in a very important institution such as the military.

I would have thought that an institution like the military should have rules, laws and code of conduct and people who breech such rules should be sanctioned appropriately by the same institution, irrespective of who is in Aso Rock. But alas that appears not to be the case.

Since they gave lack of equipment as reasons behind their actions, are those equipments now available? Has the APC govt bought the equipments in 3 months? If not, then on what basis are they returning since the reasons they bolted is still unresolved?

And does it now mean that solders are free to bolt when they feel they're not sufficiently equipped? And who determines what is sufficient equipment and what is not? Is it left to the solders' individual judgement or imagination?

What about those that sabotaged their fellow colleagues in the war front? Was that also due to lack of equipments?

And was this very action one of the campaign promises of Buhari? Was it subjected to any national debate?

And what do we do those who stood firm, in spite of the so called insufficient equipments, and ensured that you and are still alive, including those who paid the ultimate price? Were they FOOLS?

I also think part of the problem is biggest malaise afflicting Africa, where every new leader tries as much as possible to destroy or undo what his predecessor did. It's a vicious cycle of spending 4 years to undo what your predecessor did. And we are seeing heavy dose of it under the current govt. And yet you want to make PROGRESS? By what magic?

Finally, we should also learn to view issues beyond partisan and tribal interests. A perfect example is the fuel subsidy debate where all those against it only yesterday are now the ones canvasing for it's removal simply because of change in either the party or the tribe of the PERSON in Aso Rock.

Op, the recall is in good faith.
Why some soldiers were sent to fight insurgents with poor fire arms and low motivation by their Ogas when the situation could have been better, what do you expect?
Obeying command is the way of a soldier but the man giving the command has a role to play too and when that is lacking it is expected to see disrespect.
Too many things have been wrong with how the fight against insurgents have been carried out from the top army ranks to the rank and file. Investigating and allowing those who have genuine cases back in the army isn't a bad move.
Its not about APC or PDP but strictly a professional issue

Why dont you stop whining and open your eyes and mind?

1. They were trained with humongous sums
2. They walked away, not because they were cowards, but because your idols didnt equip them
3. These are men who suddenly have no jobs in a harsh economy and have been trained to live a life of violence.... what next for such?
4. The military needs men to battle BH. Which is cheaper in recalling people unfairly kicked out or training newbies?

Your angst against APC is obviously the problem. That and losing your post as head-weeping nuisance to Weeping-Nista but sorry, we are NOT concerned

Deal with it

you are tired of Tinubu boys blowing pipe lines you are back with your usual biased and sentimental threads.

I guess you folks missed SCREENING in the report about the recalled soldiers. The recalled soldiers are to be screened, meaning not all of them will actually make their way back to the army.

It is no news the the war against terror in the last government was purely a political and enrichment program.

What do you have to say about the lives if many soldiers lost due to the ineptitude, greediness and wickedness of the army bosses.

These guys knew, the previous government cared less about them, they were ill equiped with the huge budget they hear on the news everyday.

This is not the first time the army authorities will be recalling dismissed soldiers or officers and this will not be the last. To burst your bubble, any soldier that is recalled WILL BE PAID HIS/HER FULL AREAS AND ENTITLEMENT STARTING FROM WHEN HIS/HER PAY WAS STOPPED

I'm opposed to the recall of any dismissed soldiers irrespective of the reasons for their disengagement. Strict military discipline should be left insulated from governance and party loyalty and/or politics.

It is indeed a dangerous precedent that no reason is good enough to uphold.

Abeg help me tell them oh. The main issue is not providing adequately equipment for this people,we are not complaining about that. The days where you have a gun you have all have passed this days you need more.

SCREENED BY THE SAME COWARDS WITH BIG BELLIES FEASTING ON THE SECURITY BUDGET AND SENDING THEM TO THE WAR FRONT.....

THEY NEEDED TO ACT LIKE THEY WERE IN CHARGE, WHEREAS, THEY WERE NOT.

DO YOU HAVE ANY EXPLANATION AS TO WHY 6 WEEKS BEFORE ELECTION, THE MILITARY HEADS SUDDENLY HAD A CLUE ON HOW TO DISSEMINATE BH STRONG HOLDS? SOMETHING THEY WERE GALLIVANTING ABOUT FOR 6 GOOD YEARS?

MOST OF THE BIG BOSSES HAVE BEEN RETIRED, MOST IMPORTANTLY THE ARMY CHIEFS. THERE IS A NEW C IN C TOO WHO IS A RETIRED ARMY GENERAL WHO UNDERSTANDS THE PLIGHT OF THE SOLDIERS AND ALSO UNDERSTANDS THE DANGERS OF INJECTING MORE THAN 1000 TRAINED SOLDIERS INTO THE SOCIETY.

Okay let's be professional

If as a "trained" soldier you believe your ammunitions and not your wit and desire for victory is your greatest weapon then your training is wasted on you! The best land forces were never the best equipped ones---------the red army vs Hitler's juggernaut (WWII), the vietcong vs the U.S army (vietnam war), the communist army vs the republican army i think (chinese civil war) and the list goes on and on even ISIS vs the iraqi army

The lack of equipment was clearly a result of the massive corruption that pervaded the military under Goodluck Jonathan. Where is the justice in punishing the soldiers for reacting to stimuli against that background?

All things being equal, the actions of those soldiers are worthy of severe punishment but in this case it has been established by the authorities that funds for acquiring required equipment were mismanaged.

Would it not amount to hypocrisy if the same authorities had acted otherwise?

At no. 2 you make me laugh though i would rather weep for Nigeria, don't you know no. 1 cancels out no. 2?

And when mubi was captured by 300 boko haram fighters earlier this year without a fight, was it because they were ill equipped? I remember armoured tanks were burned down by the fleeing military and shots fired sporadically into the air for three good days by fleeing soldiers while not one shot was fired at the boko haram insurgents, does your number 2 also insure men like these from the prosecution that followed?

Who is partisan now? undecided or do you need links from your trusted sahara reporters to buttress this fact?

YES ITS AN INSTITUTION. EVERY INSTITUTION HAVE BOSSES TOO, OR DOES THE INSTITUTION RUN ITS SELF. WAS IT NOT AN INSTITUTION THAT REVERSED BODE GEORGE CONVICTION AND PUBLISHED AND APPOLOGY ON PAGES OF NEWS PAPER?

THE ARMY HAVE ITS OWN LAWS TOO, AND EVERY SOLDIER ALSO HAVE A RIGHT TO FAIR HEARING. IF THE NEW BOSS FEELS THEY WERE NOT GIVEN A FAIR HEARING, IS IT WRONG RE-SCREEN THEM?

Some of the soldiers are still young and useful to the nation.

The government is doing the right thing by reengaging them and training them to be useful to the nation again.
Rather than they becoming tools in the hands of armed robbers and politicians.
