Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) has announced plan to establish an N80 billion plant at Okigwe.

The Head of Public Affairs Communication, Mr Uzor Odenigbo, disclosed this in an interactive session with newsmen in Owerri.

According to him, work on the proposed site of the project would have commenced before now but for the effort of the management (NBC) to sort out some challenges confronting company.

Odenigbo however assured that construction work would commence at 30,000 hectares of land next year, even as he dismissed insinuations that the state government was making moves to recover the land from the company.

Odenigbo assured that the multi-billion naira plant when realized would offer employment to a number of unemployed youths which would reduce the current biting youth unemployment in the state.

He said that the NBC had between 2008 and 2013 paid N33 billion as electricity bills, stressing that the company does not hesitate to settle its electricity bills wherever it has operational plants to avoid disruption of its operations despite the acquisition of big generators.

According to him, the NBC operates 12 bottling plants across the country in addition to 50 distribution depots and widespread network of distribution partners.
