Mamman Jiya Vatsa was childhood friends with Ibrahim Babangida and both men were peers who attended the same educational institutions.

Vatsa (3 December 1940 – 5 March 1986) was a senior Nigerian Army officer and writer who was executed by the government of Major General Ibrahim Babangida on 5 March 1986 following a military tribunal conviction for alleged treason associated with an abortive coup.

He served as Minister of the Federal Capital Abuja, and was a member of the Supreme Military Council.

In a 2006 letter to Obasanjo, Sufiya, Vatsa's Efik wife who believes IBB framed her late husband stated:

“Although there was no iota of evidence linking my husband with the phantom coup, he was convicted and sentenced to death by the Special Military Tribunal which purportedly tried him and other coup suspects. My husband’s appeal to the Armed Forces Ruling Council against his illegal conviction was yet to be considered when the Head of State, General Babangida had him secretly executed along with the other coup convicts.”

Till date his body has not been returned to his family and his final resting place remains unknown.

Power is a scary and lovely thing.It makes,it mars,just like time.

Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Friends became enemies when one (IBB) had absolute power and the other one (Vatsa) wanted absolute power.

Vatsa, then a Lieutenant with the 4th Battalion in Ibadan, was one of the many officers of northern Nigerian origin, who staged what became known as the Nigerian Counter-Coup of 1966 because of grievances they felt towards the administration of General Aguiyi Ironsi's government which quelled the 15 January 1966 coup. Other participants in the coup included 2nd Lieutenant Sanni Abacha, Lieutenant Muhammadu Buhari, Lieutenant Ibrahim Babangida, Lieutenant Ibrahim Bako, and Lieutenant Buka Suka Dimka among others.

Vasta was consumed by the monster he helped create. IBB understood law 2 of Robert Green law's of power. He was wary of his friend vasta. He knew as a friend he will betray him more quickly, for friends are easily aroused to envy.

His brother became a general too, recently taught his only son mamman K. .... A very slow learning personality ..but with a super rich dad as a general in the NA.he was the GOC in charge of ammunitions Nation wide.
