2015:Power shift to North not negotiable—Northern leaders

Northern elders
Northern Elders  are not prepared to back down on the North’s demand for the presidency in 2015,spokesman for the group, Professor  Ango Abdullahi has said.

“There is no going back on the presidency returning to the North in 2015, and that has remained our position,” he told The Nation on the outcome of the last weekend meeting of the Northern Elders Forum.

Professor Abdullahi accused  the President of playing politics with the proposed national conference.

“As far as we are concerned, all this talk about national conference is political and geared towards 2015. It is also becoming clear that the only card on the table of Mr. President is ethnicity or religion. We are waiting to see how this will work in his favour,” he said.

But he explained that the North is not in any way against the conference.

His words: “The Northern Elders’ Forum met last weekend and we generally agreed with the direction of the North on the National Conference. And we said why not? The point we tried to make is what kind of conference?

“This is because we have had all sorts of conferences in the past from 1914 to date. All the reports of these conferences are there in the Government House. The Northern Elders’ Forum wondered what kind of conversation, dialogue, or conference that would be different from the ones we have had before.

“We agreed that the only thing that will make the proposed conference significantly different is when it is sovereign. What needs to be done is to suspend the current 1999 Constitution by the National Assembly to pave the way for a peoples’ conference. The National Assembly should vacate itself to enable the sovereign conference to take place.

“I am particularly surprised that those who have always wanted a sovereign conference are now backing out and for whatever reason, I cannot say. While the Northern Elders’ Forum may be at home with the proposed conference, as we have always maintained that we are ready for any kind of conference, I still maintain that we either have a sovereign conference or nothing else. Without that, we had better manage the system as it is.  Otherwise, the proposed conference will be a mere talk shop and a jamboree.”

Northern hegemony since 1960

Eleven days after Nigeria got her political independence on October 1, 1960, the Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello said, as was carried by the Parrot newspaper on October 12, 1960:

"The new nation called Nigeria should be an estate of our great grandfather Othman Dan Fodio. We must ruthlessly prevent a change of power. We use the minorities in the north as willing tools and the south as a conquered territory and never allow them to rule over us and never allow them to have control over their future." – Parrot Newspaper October 12, 1960.

Now, there are important revelations about the vision of Sir Ahmadu Bello, as captured in the above, and which vision his people have executed with great effectiveness for the past 5 decades:

1. Nigeria is an estate of their great grandfather Othman Dan Fodio, and so anyone who does not descend from their forebear is a tenant. The vision is to maintain a tenancy status for all non-Dan Fodians dwelling within the geographical boundaries of Nigeria.

2. To prevent ruthlessly any change of order that wrestles power from the Dan Fodians.

3. To use and manipulate all "minorities" of the "north" as the slaves of the Dan Fodians.

4. To control the resources of tenants (non-Dan Fodians) in their estate (Nigeria).

5. To resist any form of rule over the Dan Fodians.

6. To never allow non-Dan Fodians to have control over their future.

2015: Why Power Must Return To The North
by NewsAdmin on Jun 3, 2014 | 1 Comment
Posted under: Opinion, Politics

This is 2014 and in just about seven months from now,the country would be holding a general election of unprecedented significance given that since 1999 except for the brief period of our late president Yar’Adua, the presidency has been in the South. For the North,no other election in the history of Nigeria is capable of making or marring the political influence and position of the people of the Northern region of Nigeria as the 2015 presidential election.
For the majority of Northerners who are by far more politically conscious of the two broad regions that make up Nigeria, it would have been unnecessary to remind our people .
However,we have in recent times been witnessing a dangerous trend, a divide and rule tactics by the current government aimed at weakening the determination of the North to reclaim its traditional position of providing leadership for Nigeria polity.
Only recently Alhaji Haliru Mohammed and his likes met with President Goodluck Jonathan, Pledging allegiance and promising to betray the North again for him, come 2015 polls. What a shame! The likes of Gulak are not relevant when we have committed elders like Dr.Junaid Mohammed and others who will not fail the North, like governors Nyako and Kwakwanso. The same people like Haliru who benefitted from the same position and public offices that our fore-fathers laboured for which the north is being denied since the time of Obasanjo who betrayed the North.
The North is only asking for what it does best in Nigeria;leadership. All regions of the country excel in one area or the other; the West in education, Eastern region business, the North has since independence by divine blessing provided leadership and administration which has kept the country stable and secure and would continue to work for a peaceful country. This is no accident; it is the Almighty Allah that has destined it so.
However, there is currently a mediocre interregnum, with an interloper in the name of a Jonathan Southern presidency .It is an aberration; for apart from the six months when Aguyi-Ironsi and his Eastern cohorts took North unawares, the North has provided leadership for the country and has even denied itself by installing a South westerner,Olusegun Obasanjo twice as a president from the South.
First Obasanjo on the death of General Murtala Mohammed , even Chief Shonekan when Abiola attempted unsuccessfully to rule, and later Obasanjo again in 1999 till 2007 to help fulfill Allah’s will of the leadership role of the North for our country. Obasanjo nearly abused this privilege by attempting to go for a third term ,after he begged and pleaded with the North that brought him to power in the first place to allow him go for a second term.
For his betrayer of the North , Obasanjo made amends for his actions making sure that power returned to North by handing over to the late Umar Musa Yar’Adua, his friend’s younger brother in the most rigged election of 2007 election as opposed Gen.Muhammadu Buhari that Nigerian people wanted.
No matter the arrogance of those in power now , the likes of Obasanjo know that without the North he could not have stepped into the office of the president where Chief Obafemi Awolowo who thought could rule Nigeria failed woefully.
Another Yoruba leader who has shown wisdom and knowledge of history to achieve greater benefits for his people unlike Awolowo who was not flexible is Bola Ahmed Tinubu who after initial reluctance in 2011 ,has since seen the light and realized the strategic wisdom in working with the North for a just and sustainable Nigeria.
It is against this background that the 2015 presidential election becomes particularly significant for the North. For now power is in the hands of a zone which arrogantly believes that it is entitled to it by virtue of the natural resources , in their region ,whereas every region has contributed its resources to the initial development of the oil they now claim ownership of. They fail to remember politics is a game of numbers .They thought they can use National Conference and they blackmail our people that North is afraid but now the reality of our strength of number has shown who we are and that is democracy. How can a zone not larger than only two northern states either in North west or North east hope to retain power. This can only be if the North allows it to happen and we shall not allow the mistake of 1999 to repeat again. Our carefully selected delegates at the National Conference have made this clear, the so-called 13 percent derivation should infact be reduced to 5% for only on-shore oil, because all mineral resources belong to the federal government ,this has always been the case since the colonial period. If the North stands together with it allies in the South west we can ensure that local governments get 35% of federal allocations , while states get 39 percent . Let those who want 50% derivation get it only from those resources that were not located naturally.
As for the elections, with the South west under Bola Tinubu with five states combined with our population in the North we will show our superiority on Election Day come 2015.
Teaming up with General Muhammadu Buhari, who whtever any one might say is currently the undisputed leader of the North, as there is no other person whom the masses in the North are willing to vote or even die for, like General Muhammadu Buhari , and he certainly merits it.
Moreover he has over several years also been working hard to unite the entire Fulani people all over the world. This is historically found in several countries across Africa ; from Kenya through Rwanda , Central Africa Republic, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, to Nigeria etc.
The Jonathan people in the South believe they can win in 2015 because they can get the support of the Middle Belt Christians.Trying to use religion will not work and in any case how many Christians are they even in the whole Nigeria compared to Muslims? Only naive traitors of the North and from there will not support the region from the denial Obasanjo’s betrayal has cost the North. We are confident that this plan to use our people will fail. The Middle Belt has always been full of treachery right from the days of Joseph Tarka and his likes, yet their United Middle Belt Congress could not stop the Northern People’s Congress (NPC) from winning in the past. The political naivety and narrow mindedness of some Middle Belt people as always cannot stop the North from clinching the presidency if only the APC selects a Northern presidential candidate. The PDP will surely fail as our people continue to move away from its umbrella. The North can make its population count and truly show that politics is a game of numbers and Allah has granted us that to provide leadership.
As for Professor Attahiru Jega, we pray that he does not betray the North in the 2015 elections.

Let all good nigerians come together and help ibos to get their biafra . ..I am in support of biafra, unlike my coward folks who think they can't do without ibos. My people should start fighting for actualization of odua republic. ..we all have to learn to stand on own... the Hausa / Fulani has to be on their own too.

I hate nigeria the way it is....we are not thesame people. ..the cowards should learn to be brave like ibos...I admire ibos even though their over chest beating irritates me...

Ibos should learn how to fight media war, not chest beating and making known all your little secret...you people should be sophisticated and stop defending, but attacking..

Show me where the "North" stated it was happy about the power-shift? That assertion was the conclusion of the OP, and not the statement of any northerner.

Of course, it was also convenient for you and the divisive OP to ignore this part:

The Northern elders were exposing the lack of sincerity of the GEJ government regarding the failed national conference which he never implemented, highlighting that it was a veil for their 2015 agenda and the North will have nothing of the sort.

The basis, content, and intention of this thread is baseless, completely false and in contravention of RULE 8 of this forum.

There is no other reason why GEJ lost the election its all about Northern agenda, which mandated the presidency t return to the north. Therefore when pdp members started blame games i was wondering if they didnt know about northern agenda. That is why Muazu played the role he plyed. That is why most pdp states in the north submitted to Apc . That is why Jega had to use card readers that disenfrnchised mjority of nigerian. That is why Borno Adamawa and Yobe states that are deserted due to bokohram actiities recorded 99% permanent card receipt. Ango abdullahi has spoken and we believe him

GOODLUCK JONATHAN IS NIGERIA'S ACTING PRESIDENT
There are new updates on this situation as Yar'Adua has returned to Nigeria. Please read Nigeria's President Yar'Adua Returns? after reading the article below.

After an absence of 79 days and an ensuing leadership vacuum that resulted in court cases, protests and confusion, Vice President Goodluck Jonathan has been declared acting president of Nigeria. It took separate motions from both bodies of the National Assembly to convey executive power upon Jonathan. For over 2 months, Yar'Adua's absence raised constitutional questions about how a Vice President can assume the executive power and functions of the president. Section 145 of the Constitution was interpreted by many to require the President to issue a letter to the National Assembly asserting intent to temporarily transfer power. However, a court recently ruled that the President is not obligated to formally inform the National Assembly of prolonged absences thus, making the transfer of power automatic when he is away. But, this ruling did not dampen concerns about Jonathan's ability to act as President and Jonathan himself played it safe.

Source: Telegraph.co.uk
FEBRUARY 9, 2010
That was until February 9, 2010 when all of Nigeria's 36 state governors met with the Vice President and informed him of their decision to have him as the acting president. The governors then met with the Senate in a meeting that resulted in that body voting to make Jonathan the acting president. The House of Representatives also passed a similar motion and these legislative acts seem to have brought to an end the political uncertainty over who steers the national ship. February 9th could possibly go down in history as a day when democratic political measures where used to take Nigeria one step further down the path to becoming a true democratic nation. The new acting President himself reacted in a nationally televised speech saying, "by the grace of God, we have once again succeeded in moving our country forward."

Jonathan wasted no time assuming Presidential functions as he met with officials from the European Investment Bank, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Johnnie Carson and announced that the federal government is creating a disaster response plan. In another action that potentially highlighted his leadership style, the acting president locked out 2 Ministers that arrived late for a meeting. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ojo Maduekwe, and the Minister of Power, Lawal Babalola, arrived 15 and 20 minutes late for a meeting with Jonathan and were not allowed in by security officers at the entrance to the conference room.

A LOSS OF CONFIDENCE?
Nigerians from all sectors have been clamoring for the President to relinquish executive powers since he is currently recovering from treatment. From labor unions, Nigerian newspapers & media organizations, the Minister of Information and even the man who handpicked Yar'Adua to become President - former president Olusegun Obasanjo. The growing calls for a peaceful transfer of executive functions became too much for legislators to ignore, particularly the Senate which previously claimed its "hands were tied." This act of declaring Jonathan as acting President flies in the face of a recent 'promise' made by Presidential adviser Mohammed Abba-Aji that a formal letter will be forthcoming by the end of the second week of February. Consequently, this decision to not wait for a letter or further action can be interpreted as a loss of confidence in the President.

TRIBAL CONCERNS & A POTENTIAL BACKLASH?
Jonathan's new role as acting President also flies in the face of what has been deemed 'an understanding' that Presidential power will vacillate between the south and north of Nigeria. Yar'Adua's possible inability to serve out his term raised concerns amongst many Norther elites who were reluctant to see Jonathan, a southerner, become President and hence, cut short the North's bite at the proverbial Presidential apple. In fact, the Northern Union previously warned that the "stability of [the] country ... hinged [on] power rotation between the North and the South." This writer raised the fact that such an understanding was not in the constitution and not necessarily in the immediate interest of the Nigerian people. Thankfully, it seems that the nation's governors, senators and representatives agree that holding the nation hostage simply to satisfy an unconstitutional understanding was foolhardy and a danger to Nigerian democracy. Yet, the Northern Union's threat, coupled with the recently rejected Al Qaeda offer to train Northern Muslims to fight against Nigerian Christians reinforces that the tribal concerns raised by Jonathan's appointment cannot be taken lightly. As such, there remains a possibility, no matter how small, that pro-Yar'Adua supporters could choose to challenge the legislative act. Hopefully, such a challenge will take place via legal and not violent means as experienced in Jos in January. And, Yar'Adua's handlers will publicly discourage any challenge of the people's will for the sake of the nation. Those aggrieved by the National Assembly's decision should look to, of all places, Anambra state for some guidance. If the players in the just-concluded Anambra gubernatorial polls can accept the election results that a court declared illegal, and even the government has admitted had irregularities , then hopefully they can acquiesce to the act of the joint legislative bodies.

WILL THE CORRUPTION SCANDAL DISAPPEAR?
There remains the issue of a corruption scandal involving Jonathan's wife, Patience Jonathan who was investigated for her involvement in the illegal movement of $13.5 million. As Jonathan now wields executive power, he has the means to tacitly or bluntly ensure that nothing ever comes of the corruption scandal involving his wife. Considering that Jonathan had to be pressured to reveal his assets, unlike Yar'Adua who willingly did so, there is a cloud of suspicion on the now-acting President with regard to corruption, a problem that has plagued Nigeria for far too long. Plus, considering the outcome of the James Ibori case which resulted in accusations that the nation's anti-corruption body 'bungled the case on purpose', and many who have been fingered (at home and abroad) as corrupt are yet to face justice, it is not a stretch to worry that a scandal tied to Jonathan will simply disappear.

Nigeria is trying to finetune a democratic style specially for herself. The prolonged absence of President Yar'Adua exposed holes in the constitution regarding the temporary transfer of executive power, but on February 9th, the National Assembly decided to bring an end to the confusion on that matter. It remains to be seen whether this legislative act will trigger a backlash on tribal grounds and what kind of acting President Jonathan will be. There are additional unknowns, such as when will the President return, if at all? And, if he does, will he gain back control of the country and how? Or, will Jonathan act as President until the next Presidential election in 2011 and will he run for President? The political vacuum experienced by Nigeria over the last few months must come to an end to instill confidence in the people and possibly enable various sectors of the country to operate as they should. Hopefully that will be the case with Goodluck Jonathan as acting President. It will be a shame if someone with the name 'Goodluck' brings anything but that to the Nigerian people.

UPDATE: A question from reader and fellow Nigerian blogger, Nneoma, has prompted a closer look at the Constitution. Reacting to this article, Nneoma asked "who then assumes the vice-presidency?"

Well, it appears that the declaration of Jonathan as acting President might be illegal, no matter how temporary it is. Nigeria's Constitution does not provide for an acting President/transfer of power to the V.P. under the circumstances that just occurred. Hence, the Constitution also does not provide for the selection of an acting V.P. This writer's reading of the relevant sections of the Constitution (§143-146) reveals that even if §145 is the basis for the declaration (so claimed by the Senate and relying on the BBC interview), the Constitution does not offer a means to pick an acting V.P.

A post is forthcoming on the only ways that an acting V.P. can be selected.

The North and Goodluck Jonathan Presidency
By

It is no news that Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is fully in-charge as the Acting President of the Federal Republic Nigeria. But the high-wired political intrigues, manoeuvres and horse-trading that heralded his emergence as the Acting President will continue to deepen as well as become very interesting. As events unfold, political pundits and students of history will have a lot to comment on, learn from and also use to predict things to come, while ordinary Nigerians will watch with keen interest.

The emergence of Yar’Adua as the President of Nigeria was a product of many factors. One of the main factors was the unwritten ‘agreement’ of power rotation between the north and south, which many observers see as undemocratic and also an offshoot of the never-ending   ploy by the Nigerian political elites to continue to hold on to power, but it supporters described idea as the only way-out for all parts of the country to taste power.
Goodluck Jonathan’s Acting Presidency and the likelihood of him becoming the President will interweave within three issues; the return or otherwise of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, the North’s political moves and Goodluck’s political future.

The north would be the epicentre of politics to come. Since the emergence of the facts about President Yar’Adua’s health status, political gladiators in the region are busy putting their political machinery to action by building networks and strategising for the 2011 presidential election, believing that the probability of Yar’Adua seeking a second term is very slim. There is strong feeling within the political class in the north, that the region must hold on to power till 2015 based on the aforementioned unwritten agreement, but most observers are quick to remind the political elites from the north that during the 2003 elections which was the turn of the south to complete their eight years in power, the same north fielded candidates to seek the office of the President.
Let’s assume all things being equal, and the north is allowed to go solo; is the political class in the region ready to make amends and present a candidate that would bring dynamisms and also exhibit an understanding of global trends?  The north had made a serious mistake by allowing Obasanjo to pick his choice to represent it, because the region had the political power to block Obasanjo then. Though, the beauty of this remains a lesson to other regions when their ‘turn’ comes.

Now that it appears the north is slowly losing the Presidency, Acting President Goodluck Jonathan will be closely watched by the region; in addition, his actions and inactions will be thoroughly read by the northern political class. In return, the Acting President has to face the north with two calculations in his mind. The first; he has to keep in his mind the likelihood of the return of his boss, Yar’Adua, in this case, Jonathan will employ  his usual tactic of being  Mr. Patient. So, those that are expecting him to go bananas will be disappointed. But if he eventually becomes the President, he has to play the imitable- approach the north through political manoeuvring that requires reaching painstaking political agreement and concessions. Politics, they say, is all about give and take.

However, if Yar’Adua returns, Jonathan’s political calculations will definitely change. As earlier mentioned, the man must have been playing his politics with two things in mind, the return or otherwise of his boss. If Yar’Adua returns, Jonathan’s calculations must be on how to remain the Vice President, regardless of who will be the presidential candidate that will be presented by the north. Though, the feeling in many quarters is, the likelihood of Yar’Adua going for second term is slim. But is Yar’Adua ready to allow the north to represent another candidate for the 2011 presidential elections. If the north presents another candidate, there is no grantee he/she will do only one term of four years, so as to allow the south takeover, thus jeopardising Acting President Goodluck Jonathan chance of becoming President after the north might have finished its two terms.

If Yar’Adua do not eventually return, and in the end Acting President Goodluck Jonathan becomes the President, there is nothing that can stop him from seeking election into the office of the President, in fact many political elites from the north will campaign for him if they see the possibilities of their interests being promoted. In that case, high-wired politics that involves manoeuvres and horse-trading will be employed. Another possible scenario is, if Jonathan performs excellently, this will give him the advantage of winning the heart of Nigerians. He may also use the leverage of being the President and impose himself in 2011 as the President using the machinery of the State.

Acting President Goodluck Jonathan’s political future will be determined by four issues, the first and the most important is the return or otherwise of President Yar’Adua, the second is the political direction of the north, the third is his political intention and his ability to craftily play the usual Nigerian politics, while the fourth which is also closely tied to the first is his performance in office. Acting President Goodluck Jonathan has found himself in a situation that both politics and policies may determine his political future. To see him through, he has to take careful political steps and intelligent policies, these require more than good luck!

Abuja — There are indications that the North is working assiduously towards dumping President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 election for one of its own.
The action of the North, it was gathered, is not unconnected with the deep-seated anger running across the region over Jonathan’s alleged betrayal and tampering  with the political economic interest of the region.

From Left: Bauchi State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Sagir Saleh, PDP North-East Zonal Chairman, Sen. Mohammed Girgir, and PDP Bauchi State Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Yaro-Yaro, at the inauguration of PDP Secretariat In Bauchi State On Friday (28/9/12). NAN
Findings by Vanguard Newspaper reveal that the North is angry with Jonathan over his rejection of the zoning arrangement of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and subsequent contest of the 2011Presidential poll, which he eventually won.

Although Jonathan has not declared his intention to run, his foot soldiers have already begun to claim that Jonathan must be allowed to complete his two terms as provided by the Nigerian Constitution.
According to findings, Jonathan is said to have appended his signature as number 37th of the 47 political leaders in the country, who met with Obasanjo in his Ota farm in 2003 to firm up arrangement for the PDP elections.
But, following the death of Alhaji Shehu Yar’Adua, the President reportedly said there was no zoning arrangement barring him from running for the nation’s top job, thereby incurring the wrath of the North.
A member of the Northern Elders’ Forum, NEF, Prof Ango Abdullahi, confirmed the anger of the region against Jonathan when contacted.
According to Abdullahi, who is the spokesman of the NEF, Jonathan had betrayed the North and would not be supported in the next election.
Abdullahi, a former Special Adviser to Chief Olusegun Obasanjo on Food Security, admitted that the North was angry with Jonathan having failed them in many respects, chief among them being manipulation of the political process to emerge as the PDP presidential candidate in 2011 and failing to provide the needed leadership for the country.
Jonathan accused of neglecting the North
The former Ahmadu Bello University Vice Chancellor, said: “We in the North cannot trust Jonathan because of his attempt to deny the zoning formula he was a signatory to in 2003.
“The North expected him to have completed Yar’Adua’s tenure and step down in 2011 for the region to complete its term but he bought over some Northern lackeys to say that he could contest the election.
“The zoning agreement effectively disqualified Jonathan from contesting the 2011 election on moral grounds.
“But surprisingly, they cleverly manipulated the primaries and other processes and enthroned Jonathan. That was possible because some Northerners sold out and connived with him to undo the area for their own selfish interest.
“I can assure you that the North will not sit back for 2011 to repeat itself. That is what I can say at this point in time, we cannot support someone who reneged on a gentleman’s agreement that disqualified him from contesting in the election on purely moral grounds.
“Again, it is left for Nigerians to judge whether the man has come close to being an effective president for Nigeria since he became president, whether acting or substantial”.
Although he did not name those bought over by Jonathan to undo the area, Abdullahi said the people of the North had taken note of the ‘traitors’ and would at the appropriate time expose them to the world.
Beyond ‘imposing’ himself on the people, Abdullahi accused the President of failing to cater for the crisis-prone areas of the North, thereby showing himself as someone who has no genuine interest in the region.
He said: “Despite all the crises and problems in many parts of the North, Mr. President has never for once visited to see the victims or provide for their needs.
“Now, show me what attributes of leadership that Jonathan has exhibited as a President of a great country.
“As far as we are concerned, he has failed in all. He continues to make all manner of statements that portray him as totally unsuitable and unqualified for national leadership that Nigeria needs at this point in history.”
Abdullahi also accused the present administration of aiding and abetting corruption and piling up debts that had been partially cleared by the previous administrations.
He added: “Jonathan should not seek office in 2015 because even those who supported him initially have come out to say that he is one of the most incompetent presidents that this country has ever produced. Incompetence is the key word.
On corruption, debts
“Corruption is at its peak under his leadership and that is why the country is reversing to the debt trap. Even Obasanjo left some substantial foreign reserves and virtually cleared the debt burden of the country before leaving office.
“But now the reserve is gone and we are back in debts. Subsidy is at the forefront of corruption. Over N2.6 trillion gone in the name of oil subsidy and it is evident that most people who fronted this scam did so to return most of the money to the electioneering campaign of 2011.”
Turning to the controversial onshore/offshore dichotomy Act of 2005, the NEF spokesman blamed top-ranking northerners in the Obasanjo government of also selling out the interest of the region to pass the bill into law.
According to him, it was wrong and against international law of the sea  for the National Assembly to pass the oil dichotomy bill, allowing oil-producing states to be paid revenue for oil taken from as far as 200 feet isobath, thereby denying other states of federal revenue.
Onshore/offshore dichotomy
He said: “Governors, ministers and lawmakers from the North were all compromised with certain things all in a desperate and selfish bid to pass the oil dichotomy bill.
“All those from the North who partook in the passage of the law are guilty of compromising the interest of the area and we have their names and will make them available to Nigerians at the right time”.
He therefore sought an urgent review of the law to make more national resources available to all Nigerians.
But the Political Adviser to the President, Alhaji Ahmed Gulak, has warned against any attempt by the North to stop Jonathan in 2015, saying it was a big joke.
Gulak told Vanguard in an interview that it was the President’s right to run for two terms and that nobody had the authority to stop him in 2015.

Citing the current energy crisis engulfing the nation due to scarcity of petroleum products nationwide following alleged Federal Government’s indebtedness to various groups, the ACF lamented that, “Nigerians do not deserve such a parting gift from Jonathan after he has earned himself a global applause for statesmanship.”

The ACF pronouncement is contained in a statement in Kaduna yesterday after the monthly meeting of its national executive council.

The statement signed by the ACF National Publicity Secretary, Muhammad Ibrahim, noted that the nationwide fuel scarcity had virtually crippled the economy and put untold hardship on Nigerians.

The statement read, “this has seriously affected power generation and distribution, transportation system, telecommunications, banking, water supply and other sectors of the economy.

“In fact, the situation is terrible, worrisome and capable of shutting down the country. Certainly, few days to the handover of government to the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, the ACF  and indeed Nigerians are worried and disturbed at the rate the Nigerian state is being grounded by actions and inactions of the outgoing Jonathan’s administration.

“All these unwarranted hardships including the persistent insecurity and many others which the outgoing regime will bequeath to Gen. Buhari appear to be deliberate and calculated to hinder the smooth take off of the new administration.

“After President Jonathan conceded defeat to Buhari, he has at every occasion pledged to cooperate with Buhari to ensure a smooth transition.

“However, ACF has observed with dismay the actions and inactions of the Jonathan’s administration in the last two months which have failed to make the transition smooth as promised. President Jonathan’s recent knack for sacking aides, chief executives, making frivolous appointments, awarding contracts and revoking or even relocating some projects at this zero hour of his administration, is morally wrong and a negation of his earlier statesman posture.

“The recent revelation by the Finance Minister, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo – Iweala that despite the huge amount ($61.7 billion about N12.3 trillion) earned from oil and other sources in the four years of President Jonathan, the Federal Government has been borrowing toPAY salaries and allowances thereby incurring heavy debt for the incoming administration.
