Abuja Court Grants Dasuki Bail On Self Recognition Hearing Resumes Oct 25, 2015 by zodo2rule: 2:55pm On Sep 01, 2015
A Federal High Court sitting before Justice Adeniyi Ademola in Abuja, has granted the immediate past National Security Adviser (NSA), Col Sambo Dasuki, who is being tried for alleged ‘treasonable offences’, bail on self-recognition.

But he is to submit his Diplomatic and Nigerian passport to the custody of the Deputy Registrar of the Federal High Court, and any of such with any government agency is to be produced and made available to the court.

Dasuki was arraigned before the court on a one count charge offence, punishable under Section 27(i) (a) (i) of the Firearms Act Cap F28LFN 2004 for possession of illegal firearm, but pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.

The Department of State Services (DSS), had arraigned the ex NSA before the court, following a search on his properties in Abuja and Sokoto on July 16, 2015, during which the Service said it recovered some amount of foreign currencies, several rifles with magazines and ammunitions

The search followed what the DSS described as credible intelligence linking the ex NSA to acts capable of undermining national security.

Having pleaded not guilty to the charge, Dasuki who was represented by Joseph Daudu SAN and Ahmed Raji SAN sought the court for bail, as it was a bail able one through an application supported by an eleven paragraphed affidavit.

Relying on the contents of the application in which the defendant, Dasuki promised to provide sureties; upon which the trial Judge granted him bail on self-recognition.

Justice Adeniyi also ordered “the defendant to submit his Diplomatic and Nigerian passport to the custody of the Deputy Registrar of the Federal High Court, and any of such with any government agency should be produced and made available to the court.

The court subsequently adjourned the matter to October 26 and 27, 2015 for hearing.
