The organised labour in Ekiti State has
begged Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele
Fayose, to pardon the 31 workers caught
for coming late to work on Monday.
The governor had directed the Head of
Service, Dr. Gbenga Faseluka, to sanction
the workers in line with the extant rule of
service.
The unions condemned the persistent
lateness of some civil servants to work,
saying it was an affront to the image of
the service and the good gesture of the
government towards building a virile civil
service.
They stated this in a press statement
issued in Ado Ekiti and signed by the Joint
Negotiating Council’s Secretary, Oladele
Blessing; the Nigeria Labour Congress’
Secretary, Olayemi Patrick and the Trade
Union Congress’ Secretary, Joseph
Adebayo.
The statement said, “This is more so
against the backdrops of admonitions via
official correspondences and interactions
of the need for workers to be alive to
their responsibilities in delivering efficient
services to the public.
“We commend our amiable Governor for
keeping faith with his promises to pay
workers salaries as at when due in spite of
the the meager resources available to the
state.
“However, we hereby plead with Mr.
Governor to please pardon the affected
workers as last warning to the public
service.
“We promise to ensure adequate
observance of our service rules with a
view to justifying payment of our salaries
and allowances.” www.punchng.com/news/lateness-labour-leaders-beg-fayose-to-pardon-workers/ |
