The Anambra State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has been in crisis since 1999. In a deliberate effort to end the crisis, the national leadership of the party recently conducted congresses at the ward, local government and state levels after which Prince Kenneth Emeakayi emerged the state chairman of PDP.

But soon after his emergence, a faction led by the party’s candidate in the 2013 governorship election in Anambra State, Comrade Tony Nwoye emerged and produced a parallel executive at the three levels of the party in the state. In this interview, Prince Emeakayi gives his view on the crisis and the way forward.

Excerpts:

You have played a central role in the politics of Anambra State and some now think you should leave. What is your reaction?

Well, first of all, I wonder who can bring that peace if not somebody who has passion for the party; somebody who is ready to sacrifice everything for the interest and success of the party in the state.

Again, it will amount to one saying that experience has become a crime because at this moment, the situation the party has found itself requires someone with in-depth knowledge of the political terrain of the state. That is why I am here.
