Is Boko Haram really tired of fighting ?

Are they abandoning their ideology or what ?

Ideology

Boko Haram's formal name is Jamaat Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Dawah wal-Jihad, meaning 'People Committed to the Prophet’s Teachings for Propagation and Jihad.' The large following attracted to Yusuf was centred at a mosque in Maiduguri's Railway Quarter. Yusuf's followers gained the nicknamed 'Boko Haram' because of the emphasis in Yusuf's teachings on rejecting of Western education and influence. Members do not call themselves by this name. 'Boko' in Hausa, the linga franca of northern Nigeria, means 'book' and is commonly used for secular education. 'Haram' is Arabic for something that is religiously forbidden.

Boko Haram disdains Western education.

In 2009, tensions between Yusuf's followers, local politicians including Borno's governor Ali Modu Sheriff, and the security services erupted into full-blown conflict to which security services responded violently. An estimated 800 of Yusuf's followers were killed. Yusuf was captured and extra-judicially killed by the police. Surviving members melted back into the community. In 2010 the group reemerged under the leadership of Yusuf's deputy Abubakar Shekau and launched a violent campaign against the security services and those perceived to be opposed to Boko Haram's ideology, aims and methods. They were involved in at least 22,430 deaths between May 2011 and April 2015.

Boko Haram got its major initial funding from what they call ‘Fai’u’ robbery. Between 2010/12 over 500M naira was carted away from bank.

Boko Haram are also engaged in ‘extortion,’ small scale and high profile kidnapping, and ransom is their biggest war chest.

Non-combatant or inactive members also contribute proceeds from their businesses from all over Africa.

Contributions also come from like-minded Jihadi groups from like AQM and from other groups around d world.

A large chunk of their weapons and other hardware are seized from Cameroon security forces but in most cases from the Nigerian Army.

If by tomorrow, the Sultan of Sokoto becomes Nigeria’s leader and every Christian convert to Islam, Boko Haram will continue their onslaught.

Their grouse is with d institution of democracy and our way of life. To Boko Haram, both supporters & secular institutions must be destroyed.
