There were chaotic scenes in the Japanese parliament yesterday as politicians punched, pushed and shoved one another during the hearing of a bill that could see the country abandon 70 years of pacifism.

Opposition lawmakers piled on top of one another during the mass brawl, with some trying to grab the committee chairman’s microphone to prevent him calling a vote on the controversial bill. If passed, the bill will allow Japanese troops to defend their allies oversees even if Japan itself isn’t under attack.

Currently article nine of Japan’s constitution – which came into force after the Second World War – outlaws war as a means to settle international disputes involving the state. See more pics of the grown men fighting below.

The fourth pix and the first tells a lot. When you're being warned to keep shut don't brag too much. That jab surely will calm him down. I actually opened the thread to see some martial art and I wasn't disappointed. I love the post world war II Japanese.

For something VERY reasonable. Watched it on cnn last night.

I think the day Japan passes this bill to trash their pacifist constitution which has worked well for them over the decades, is the day their country starts recording pockets of violence here an there. If non-involvement (militarily) in the affairs of other countries hasn't had any negative consequence to their national security, why are they now seeking to get involved?? The citizens of the country are unanimously against the amendment yet the politicians are still pushing ahead with it. I get the feeling the US is the one breathing down their necks to effect this change.

They should remember the golden rule- if it aint broke, don't fix it.

who is to gain the most from this bill obviously the u.s, to make sure Japan matches the rapid growth of china's military. the Japanese should not allow foreign countries dictate to them. they should be careful.

Unlike their Nigerian counterparts who fight for their pockets and political office only, these Japanese are fighting for the good of their country.

I wonder why Abe is pushing this bill. The hand of USA is written all over it.

Unfortunately for DPJ the opposition party, the controversial bill is likely to be passed today because Abe's party LDP has the majority both in the upper and lower house.

Could this be the end of Japan's pacifist constitution? Only time willl tell.

Pacifism: the belief that any violence, including war, is unjustifiable under any circumstances, and that all disputes should be settled by peaceful means.

I think the Japanese are still embarrassed and haunted by the aftermath of the 2nd world war. But dis change is much needed by the Japanese because atleast d military will get much more funding and with the threat from China over those islands growing by the day and d instability surrounding North and South Korea.
