It looks like Catalonia, a region in Spain might be the next in line from secession.

Hundreds of thousands of residents of the Autonomous Region of Catalonia gathered in the streets of the capital city of Barcelona to demand a vote for their region’s independence from Spain. As many as 1.8 million people participated in the demonstration, making it one of the largest the nation has seen this millennium. The historic turnout made at least one thing clear: the lid could no longer be kept on the Pandora’s box of socioeconomic grievances that Catalonians have been voicing for decades. But behind the romantic notions of separatism that have engulfed the Spanish northeast lie a set of concrete, legitimate economic incompatibilities driving the push for an independent Catalonian state.

If Catalonia were to form its own sovereign country, its 7.5 million residents would make it the 99th most populous in the world. The gross domestic product of the region— $314 billion —would rank it as the 34th largest economy, with a GDP exceeding those of Portugal, Hong Kong, and Egypt, to name a few. Its GDP per capita, at $35,000 , is greater than that of South Korea, Israel, and Italy. It’s therefore likely that an independent Catalonia would fare better than many on the global economic stage.

Will the referendum be successful? Time will tell.

Nations that had never lived together were suddenly lumped together and others split from their kith and kin. Quebec in Canada and Scotland in the UK have had the vote and decided to stay in those nations. South Sudan decided to leave Sudan. Why can't the any group in Nigeria that wants to leave be giving the vote and if the people in that area vote to leave, it should be respected.

This people are not even upto 10million, but for the fact that they think they can prosper being independent than being in Spain hence their desire to secede. My take on this is simple. I want Nigeria as a whole entity.. But if the Igbos must leave, Then all igbos must be in one accord and with one voice, not the way it is now whence some Igbos are agitating whilst others are not interested.

They thought that by killing people they will intimidate us, unfortunately they are putting themselves in a sort of vortex, they become more desperate to get out by doing worse land worse things only to be sucked in deeper and deeper and finally gets extinguished. Though what they wanted was to shoot from deferent sides and say they had a shootout with us and label us terrorists. Unfortunately things did not turn out the way they wanted, they resorted to arresting people listening to Radio Biafra. To show how desperate they have become.
