I was in Zaria today and was thrilled when I saw those gallant Nigeria Army 73rd intake recruits in their thousands, grouped in various battalions and escorted by hundreds of armed soldiers doing roadwork in the streets of the town, under the showers of today's early morning rain. Each one of them wore a camo trouser and a vest according to their battalion's colour with a backpack and a small fold 'boarding school blanket' (of course the type we had in CSSKD) fastened to their backs. My heart melted as I gave ears to the morale song a particular group of these combatants were chanting: at the peak of their voices with rain shower pouring heavily on them, they all had their both arms stretched out like they were holding imaginary rifles and were shouting;

Sambisa oo sambisa,
sambisa oo sambisa,
who go go oo sambisa,
Na me go go oo sambisa
I say na me go go oo sambisa

Some might say it's just lip service because they were compelled to do so, but on the contrary, these guys were doing this with gladness. Some of them even added a few dance steps (garalla and shakitibobo) to the roadwork. I saw happiness, gallantry and bravery in their faces.

Sambisa forest is known to be one of the major hideouts of dreaded insurgents of Nigeria in Borno state and while I lived in Maiduguri, Borno state, from the 'uprising' of insurgency up to the time when our Kanem Borno city was chaotic and full of unrest, and the word sambisa became a synonym to horror in those 'troubled years', but today these braves ones are ready to be used a tools and machinery to restore total peace to our nation, I salute their bravery. May God bless and protect them.
Plenty gbosa for you
