A former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Chief Olu Falae, monday revealed that his family paid ransom to his abductors before he was freed last Thursday.

Falae, who was also a presidential candidate on the platform of the defunct All Peoples Party (APP), was kidnapped penultimate Monday from his farm in Ondo State on his 77th birthday, and was released three days later.

He said his abductors only freed him after they received payment, adding that he walked for 15 kilometres before he was picked up by the police in Owo, several kilometres from Akure, the Ondo State capital, reported the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The former minister’s disclosure has put a lie to the claim by the Nigeria police that no ransom was paid before his release.

After spending three days in the kidnappers’ den, Falae who was escorted back home by top police officers, said he slept on the floor during his captivity.

In an interview with pressmen after he accompanied Falae home, the Inspector General of Police (IG), Solomon Arase had said that it was important for Falae to be safely back home.

He said no ransom was paid and that nobody had been arrested.

Asked about where the victim was rescued, the IG said it was a security matter and not meant for public consumption.
