Who else is observing this grand conspiracy to stop international flights and activities from Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.

Why should the igbo traders going about their legitimate business outside the shores of the country be hounded and have their hard-earned hard currency confiscated just because they used the Enugu airport.
They would prefer Igbo businessmen and women from the east flying from Lagos after long hazardous trips by road.

International flights from Enugu, which started under Odua was her main offence against the parochial Nigerian government. They have since vowed to be relentless in scuttling the flight activities in Enugu airport using dubious means.

Are there no Bureau D’Changes all over Nigeria? What about the mallams that sell cash even at street corners? How many times has useless EFCC arrested them and confiscated their money?

Why are those using the Enugu airport be compelled to pay higher than the passengers going through Lagos??
For instance, a one-way flight from lagos to Malaysia is 140k while that of Enugu ranges from 190 to 200k.
Why have the Nigerian government deliberately hiked the price of airline operating license of Enugu airport and hence chased other willing airlines from the east??

It is on record that prior to Odua's ouster as the aviation minister, many notable airlines like Lufthansa were preparing operation in Enugu airport. Why have the Nigerian government decided to cripple the activities in Enugu airport by refusing to issue licence to willing airlines??
Why is it that only Ethiopian airline(substandard) operates in an internationally certified Airport of Enugu??.

It seem that this present administration is committed to frustrating Igbo men and women business, Igbo leaders should rise to defend their people especially on this era of tagging them money launders by so called efcc with their hard earned money.

Nobody can stop Igbos. Those of us still in doubt should see why they must patronise our own and move the larger part of their businesses east.

When the International Waterlogged Airport was being commissioned, they were making noise on how the Airport was going to overtake MMA in 3days, in their usual mouthy Miracle of Biafra chest beating.

Here we are, they are not patronising the same airport. They still prefer travelling to SW to board flights to obodo wherever they are going to.

It clearly shows the poverty of SE we have always been talking about,.

When an international airport does not have enough customers that can lead to influx of airlines to the same airport, jostling for the "invisible we-are-rich" people, it is eternally blessed to fail.

There is no conspiracy anywhere Mr. Y1b.o the OP. Your land lacks capacity to attract airlines because there is no sufficient customers.

People are flying from Kano, Abuja and PH and they are not complaining of any conspiracy. Point the accusing fingers at yourselves for once.

They are always looking for someone else to blame for their woes.

Bunch of clowns.

Your types are the reason why NDLEA need to confiscate more SW farmlands.

You do not just open your TRIBALISTIC mouth and start vomiting balderdash on threads beyond your reasoning capability.
What do you have to say about Enugu airport having a higher fare difference of over 50k compared to that of Lagos??.
What is the criteria of attracting an airline company to a given airport??

How will the airport be made lively and atrract traffic when they are systematically chasing prospective travelers with a sky-rocketed fare??
They have deviced another strategy which is to arrest importers traveling with cash tagging them money launderers at the airport but are free to travel with such money via lagos airport.

This is indeed a conspiracy but nemesis will always catch up with them.

Price is high at Enugu airport.....simple

Simple law of economics.....demand and supply. The higher the demand...lower the price.

Ethiopian is not substandard until you have a national carrier either nigerian Airways or Biafrair. .....

The fact remains that most Ibo businessmen travelling are based in Lagos hence they fly from lagos. This make demand high in Lagos hence lower price.

Most business men based in the east come to buy from their big importers in lagos to sell in the east.

I understand your concern and it still boil to govt policy ....policy to systematically develop every part of the country. Promoting this airport will help the people in that axis...save time, provide job and cost....

Also let us develop sense of patriotism. If 25% of Ibo people flying thru lagos or Abuja do so through Enugu...it will make impart.

That is why a Chinese businessman in Nigeria will only use or buy China made things even as small as socks. So also the Indian businessman in Nigeria. ...they will only use TATA trucks and use only Airtel number. Because they are patriotic

Look at how this one is contradicting himself trying to get back at his Nigerian nightmare - Igbo people. In one breath he said they're not patronizing the airport because they go to the SW to board their flights, then, on their hand, they are poor. How could they be poor and at the same time boarding their CHOICE airlines at Lagos? The reason they do that answers in part the root causes of the anomaly!

From the NBS latest statistics, Enugu airport, with just one international airline recorded a breath taking 50 thousand passengers in 2014. The same airline stopped their operation to Kano after just 2 months, and the second time in 10 years.

Thus, apart from the foreign currency difficulties, people are still travelling out of the airport in their numbers. Having said that, you cannot restrict every business traveller to just one airline which is the situation currently in Enugu. Some airlines, especially those flying to the far east have long indicated their interest to land at the airport, but some special interest groups are still frustrating the efforts. So, please, post intelligent comments and not mischiefs.

Most people don't understand the conspiracy against the south eastern region, but it is going to end very very soon.

Immediately the enugu was given the intl status, one of the sw media wrote an article about bags been snatched in enugu than any other Nigerian city.

How can AIIA gain enough traction to take-off successfully when it has hateful scheming bigoted scum like you to deal with! You guys and your victim mentality Is the FG the owner of those airlines or are they the ones that fix prices It's simply economics , there are not enough people going through Enugu so the airlines will increase their prices Inorder to pay their overhead cost which would still be almost the same as that of Lagos since most of it is running costs that are there regardless of how many passengers they are able to get.

This is a normal thing with a new airport, you guys will have to bear the cost for now and as Demand increases more airlines will come in since its lucrative which will lead to competition between the airlines and subsequently lower prices.

You guys are always too sentimental and like to feel sorry for yourselves, imagining conspiracies where there are none undecided

Their monies were not confiscated because they used enugu airport; rather it was confiscated because they broke a law which states that cash amounts exceeeding a certain level MUST be declared at airports. We cannot continue to live lawlessly and expect no repercursions because we are used to it...

alcmene:

Did she steal the money she was accused of stealing or not?.... Sometimes I am tempted to ask God why I was born in such a country and from such a tribe where my people no longer have any sense of morality, the latest trend is to publicly defend crooks by shamelessly screaming political/tribal witchhunt and we pay no single attention to the crime the person has committed. It's a pity!

You are obviously not a smart person for this statement. What has the Nigerian government got to do with the price of Ethiopian air tickets?... Probably these are the kind of senseless stories that young unenlightened youths and businessmen in the south east are brainwashed with everyday by agents of radio biafra etc; that the FG is hiking air tickets of Igbos so we will be forced to fly through Lagos. I'm sorry, but your case is quite a complex one and it will take years to undo the harm that has been inflicted on your mentality.

A little word of advice, emancipate yourself from mental slavery; the slavery you claim to suffer from of which you seek freedom, that slavery is only in your mind.
Nobody is persecuting the Igbos and the same problems suffered by the Igbos is equally suffered by virtually every other Nigerian tribe. We need to emancipate ourselves from the paranoid persecution complex that we suffer from and the earlier we do this, the better.

But this can be a rallying point to our decisive action in shaping our destiny.
To Ohanaeze's credit, calling for Igbo to move their business and investment to SE is a great first step.
But we shall win the fight.
BTW ASABA should make concrete moves to become international airport as well. Asaba should start another front in the fight to get us DIRECT international access, afterall it just across the river from the leading commercial city in SE -Onitsha.
The more fronts we have in the fight, the easier it would be to overwhelm our enemies who are hell bent on blocking our international access.

Few days after the elegant Aviation Minister’s shady deal was exposed (she bought 2 BMW bullet proof cars for herself with “due process” at the sum of N255million, which is equivalent to $1.6 million) ; the stubborn minister is once again in the midst of another controversy, this time around it’s one that she has been in before with the people of Kano. It is alleged that she has continuously blocked all attempts to allow many international flights that have earlier indicated their interest in landing/using the Kano International Airport.
Daily Trust reported that Qatar Airlines requested to land in Aminu Kano International airport and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, but Princess Stella instead wanted the reputable airlines to be diverted to Enugu International Airport and Port Harcourt instead, just like she did with Ethiopian Airlines.
The same Stella blocked three other International Airlines from coming to Kano, namely: Turkish, Emirates and Etihad who had all requested to land in kano and that they be given permission to do so. As it stands, only Egypt Air flies out of Kano and that monopoly has given them a blank cheque to do as they please, thereby leaving the many Kano passengers at the mercy of this airliner. Even the newly renovated international terminal at Aminu Kano airport is just an empty building with no equipment in place since it was commissioned earlier this year. This came after many long years of waiting for it to be renovated. All these are happening at the detriment of our business men who have to incur additional expenses and hardship by flying out through Abuja and Lagos Airports.
Since hatred has beclouded The Princess’ mind, let me refresh it for her a bit. The importance of Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) not only to the North, but Nigeria as a whole cannot be overemphasized. MAKIA is the oldest airport in Nigeria, with its operations starting as far back as 1936. If History isn’t significant to the Princess, let her know that MAKIA generates more than %50 of the revenue when International flights passes through Nigerian Airspace. Economically wise, many clearing agents have run out of business simply because our CARGO has been crippled, whereas if it were functioning, they’ll earn a living and remit tax to the state coffers thereby creating a chain of economic activities that can only leave Kano and Nigeria for the better.
It’ll cost a passenger from Kano and its environs an average of additional N50,000 if he has to fly through Lagos, not to mention the many businesses that have been affected by the downing of MAKIA; like Hotels, Car hire services, shops in the airport, Bureau De Change and what have you.
At some point, I couldn’t but wonder if Mr President has given her a free will to do as she pleases. For I cannot understand why he will be going to China to secure a loan for the upgrading of our airports and building new ones, yet his Minister of Aviation is mischievously blocking and undermining other airports while promoting others, without any sanction from The President.
What did he do, when she first blocked Emirates, Turkish and Etihad from landing in Kano? What will he do now, that this news of Qatar has been exposed? If the presidency has no hand in this, they should call this woman to order. She has become too controversial and his already lackluste government would do well to get rid of her if he really cares about “transforming Nigeria”. Her “wahala” is out of this world, she orchestrated the removal of two of the parastatal Chiefs under her watch that is: Richard Aisebugbu, MD of Federal Airports Authority Of Nigeria (FAAN), and Alhaji Auyo, the MD of NAMA, simply so she can have her way. She has looted the ministry’s funds as if it’s her inheritance money. She had overseen many plane crashes that led to so many deaths without losing her seat. For Goodness sake, what is she to you Mr President that you cannot take action after so many allegations of misconducts have been labelled against her?
We the people of Kano will not fold our arms and watch this woman completely kill our airport because of her personal interests and/or whatever grudges she has against us. We will put pressure on our legislators to ensure that they deal with her since Mr President cannot do that, we will keep writing articles and making our case in any platform that we have till we make sure that she is sacked. For she is serving the people of Nigeria which we are part of. For crying out loud, she is the Minister of Federal Republic of Nigeria, and not the Minister of Enugu and Port Harcourt.
