US caused all the mess we are seeing in the mideast today. The root of all the chaos could be traced to the removal of Sadam and then exacerbated by the removal of Gadaffi. The power vacuum created by their removal gave the terrorists the much needed impetus to emerge from their caves and launch such viscous campaigns as never seen in modern times.

These were strongmen that sort of kept belligerent non state actors at bay, but today, we don't get to see headlines from the region without ISIS, Houti Rebels and those from Libya featuring prominently.

In this campaign, I'd put my money on the effectiveness of the Russians than the US. The Pakis were able to mitigate the excesses of the Taliban soon after US airstrikes ceased (or drastically reduced) in their country- what I'm saying is that the US isn't known to fix armed conflicts anywhere in the world either with boots on ground or jets in the air, their presence rather tends to make the situation deteriorate.

The only problem with this is that Asad stays, against the desires of most of the citizens of the country. The Arab spring was never meant for them, I guess Tunisia and Egypt were just lucky.

There is a lot of international politics going on; Russian is acting like a school yard bully, just like someone or a nation that feels that, it has lost its international prowess, she want to throw a few bombs here, seize a few country there,etc all in a bid to be recognized as a "world power".

Russian is not there to fight ISIS, they are there to prop up Assad by weakening internal local oppositions against him. Russian wants Assad to stay, the U.S. Wants him gone....since the Russians have shown their hands, let's see who will win. If Assad stays, then Russian wins, but if he is forced out, we know U.S. wins and is the adult here.

Even if they're not funding them directly - their Arab collaborators are. ISIS benefits no one apart from those who want unstable Syria and Iraq. And there have been stories of western jets dropping weapons in ISIS controlled territories.

Democracy isn't for everyone - MENA is a place that thrives under dictators and strong leaders cos of their religion. Why try to rock the boat in a few countries that aren't under ya influence? Democracy is bogus anyway cos there's no proper democracy in any country. Even the US isn't a proper democracy - if it were, then it won't be a fight between two parties that're birds of a feather.

And you conviently forgot how the Russians were humiliated in Afghanistan as well and they had to run with their tail in between their legs.

The Talibans are integral part of Afghanistan, you cannot get ride of them, yes there bad elements among them, but they are part owners of the state.
