He led us into a war that was obvious we could not win, rather than accept the humiliation and ethnic crimes committed against his people.....He was only 33 years and he was commanding the entire eastern region......he was quite inexperienced in handing the ethnic jingoism that was prevalent at the time, which was a by-product of the prevalent alarming ethnic superiority within the major ethnic groups brought about by the collapse of the First Republic in Jan 1966....there was an unholy alliance against him and his people....very similar to what we today in this present government........he was not a good politician but he made up for it in being a good military strategist,,........He was not selfish, I would say selfless......He forever remains a hero to his people......

Ojukwu was the son of the richest man in Nigeria at the time. If Ojukwu had wanted, he would have just followed his father into business and enjoyed the rest of his life no caring anything about his people. But Ojukwu rejected his fathers money and joined the Nigerian Army as a lowly recruit! It was only after a few weeks that the British officers started wondering what an Oxford graduate like Ojukwu should be doing with army recruits, many of who could not write their own names, and sent him on an officers course to England.


Like him or loath him, it would be hard for anyone to be dancing the song of 'one Nigeria' while over 50,000 of his own people were being slaughtered in broad daylight. Ojukwu did what he had to do, if I had been him, I would have done the same.

There is no justification for the lives lost all in the name of Biafra that cannever possible
