UK Wants Alamieyeseigha Extradited

October 5, 2015

The case of former Bayelsa State Governor,
Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, appeared
concluded when former President Goodluck
Jonathan granted him state pardon, but the
British Government seems determined to
resurrect the case.
Reports say they have requested for the
extradition of the former governor to
London.

For the British Government, the former
governor has an outstanding case in the UK
on money laundering which is there for him
to answer.
The Chairman of the Presidential Advisory
Committee on Corruption, Professor Itse
Sagay, was quoted as saying that the
President Buhari-led government is
prepared to assent to the request of the
British Government.

He said that the United Kingdom has every
legal right to demand for the extradition of
the former Bayelsa State Governor.
“The UK is in principle correct to be making
such a request based on the fact that the
crime was committed on the British soil.
However, when there is delay in trial as a
result of time, there may be consideration
on legal grounds so that the trial is not seen
as oppressive,” he said.
Former Governor Alamieyeseigha, who was
facing money laundering charges, jumped
bail and returned to Nigeria and has since
then refused to answer summons for trial
to continue.

Its unfortunate that DSP Alameiyeseigha is passing thru all this again, my take is that the power just want him out of circulation in view of the December 5th Governorship Election, because Alameiyeseigha has superior electoral value in Southern ijaw LGA and Dickson needs it, just the absence of DSP Alameiyeseigha would to some help the cause of Sylva. If Alameiyeseigha were to be in Apc would Prof Itse Sagay invoke this rule. I doubt.
Bayelsans and Kogites had expected that Prof Sagay will put thier foot down when Sylva and Audu became candidates of the Apc, but behold they kept mute or did his committee advise Mr President. However, Alameiyeseigha has to face the music because if they have serve diligently this humiliation would not have been his portion.
