UK Crime Agency Replies Vanguard: Diezani’s Cash Seizure Not Related To Arrest by Nobody: 4:21am On Oct 07, 2015
ABUJA—The United Kingdom, UK, National Crime Agency has said that the £27,000 (N9,180,000) seized from the former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, was not related to her arrest.

The agency, in response to an enquiry by Vanguard, said that cash seizure in the UK does not need to be related to an arrest.

Furthermore, NCA’s Press Office confirmed, in an electronic mail sent to Vanguard in Abuja yesterday, that apart from the £27,000 recovered from the former minister, ‘smaller sums’ were also seized from two other individuals, who it declined to name.

On why it had not revealed the identities of those arrested along with the former minister, the agency made it clear that it does not confirm the identities of individuals it arrests unless there was specific operational requirement to do so.

Vanguard had written to the agency, Monday, asking to be availed of the time and place where the money was seized from Alison-Madueke and when she would be charged to court.

NCA’s mail

The agency replied yesterday, saying: “We can confirm that £27,000 was seized from Diezani Alison-Madueke at Westminster Magistrate’s Court along with smaller sums from two other individuals. But we are not providing any further detail at this time.

“Cash seizure in the UK does not need to be related to an arrest. The NCA does not confirm identities of individuals at arrest, unless there is a specific operational requirement to do so.

“There is no further information we are offering at this time.”

The agency skipped discussion on when the Nigerians, now on bail in the UK, would be formally charged for money laundering and bribery, fuelling speculations that the agency had not completed their findings.

Meanwhile, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has denied arresting one of the oil players in the country, identified as a close business associate of the former oil minister and Atlantic Energy Chairman, Olajide Omokore.

However, Vanguard learned that the commission interrogated Omokore and released him on administrative bail.

‘EFCC quizzed Omokore’

A source in EFCC told Vanguard that Omokore reported at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja, Monday morning, on the invitation of the agency.

The source told Vanguard, on condition of anonymity, that the oil baron denied any wrongdoing.

The source told Vanguard in Abuja last night: “Omokore came and was promptly grilled on many issues relating to what he did during the tenure of the former minister and was released on administrative bail.”

Contacted, the spokesman for EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, said: “I am not aware of the development. Once I have information on that I will make it available to you.”

The target was to divert Nigerians attention from the catastrophic failures of this administration on Security leading to Abuja bombing and secondly to praise the administration for war on corruption that have never started

What do you want to believe? You choose...

Diezani was arrested, she was released on bail & her passport was confiscated to ensure she doesn't flee.

If you want Nigeria to progress, you know what it means. If you hate the government & everything it stands for, you speculate & pray Diezani is never tried...

It's a pity that up till now my people have refused to be wise.... This APC sponsored press will feast on any little news to distract the people from their short comings.. They just give the idiots what they are dying to hear and the social media goes wild with jubilation. Allison Maduke might even be cooling off somewhere in UK.. Don't be surprised later if you hear this whole money laundering stuff isn't even directly related to her.

That part of her passport being confiscated still sound like bullshit.... How can you even be arrested and released on bail only to refuse to come to court in the UK, yet nobody is frowning about it. It's a pity we will keep guessing because of the bias quality of news from our largely partisan press... The idiots are even reporting more than the Britons right now

Are we sure of the date she was asked to return?

Did her husband fly lawyers including a QC to the UK or not? , Was her mum & nephew sighted & booked or not?

When Ibori was arrested, story too was it's a lie, then we had nothing like social media, now the news is faster than the speed of light.

Let's watch events unfold....

Nobody is sure of anything now but media will always write something to keep readers excited. Since they discovered this unnamed source thing their lives has not remain the same any more. Initially they said millions was found in her house at Abuja. The millions they were referring to is #1.2million cheesy It was reported that she was caught trying to buy a house with money that can buy the whole park. Maybe she is so foolish that she didn't know the cost of those houses there. Surely she definitely has a case to answer but £13billion? Chai

We are not sure of anything... anything coming from the Nigerian press is just mere speculations. If her mum and nephew were sighted then its probably because they are the one guilty and not her.... The few things the UK has released concerning her does not even rhyme with the rubbish the Nigerian press has been feeding us with.... Dont be surprised that at the end of the day, this whole case might not even be directly related to her
