Depending on what you mean by independent.

Like men and women depend on each other especially in relationships for certain things.
It's natural.

But if as a woman one finds herself without a partner by choice or circumstance, she should be able to stand on her own feet and take care of herself instead of settling or selling herself short just to find a means of support.
Or letting anyone decide for you what to do with your life in terms of career or goals or socialization based on what is expected of your gender.
Off the top of my head.

"E.g. 1) you're a woman, find a job that won't make you earn more than the average man so they won't be intimidated"
"Don't focus on career now. Marry first because you're a woman"
"Don't go into this field because men don't like to marry women who work there"
