My attention has been drawn to the statement credited to the Senate President on bending rules as regards the screening of Ministers.

As a matter of fact, the president of the 8th Senate should not bend his rule in screening the ministerial nominees. As the screening is to take place tomorrow, news have gone viral on how the Senate President intends to "bend the rules" in order to favor some of his nominees.

The Senate has a standing order that nominated Ministers must have the support of 2 out 3 senators representing their state, it is laughable that within the twinkle of an eye, the Senate President has cunningly set in mechanisms to bend the rules.

Presently, the stand of the 8th Senate looks shady! Many of the Senators are presently being blackmailed, intimidated or threatened to do the bidding of the President of the Senate thereby asserting pressure on the Senate.

My attention has also been drawn particularly to Rivers state Senators who have refused the nomination of Mr Amaechi Rotimi who has fraud cases hanging over his head.

These senators represent the state, they know better than anybody in the National Assembly and they have put it writing why he is not qualified to represent the state. The 8th Senate should ideally respect their views and do the needful instead of playing the intelligence of Nigerians.

We cannot continue to keep our commonwealth in the hands of perceived thieves/robbers/looters, especially in a country which is against corruption.

If the Senate President uses his veto to pass Mr Amaechi and his likes, then our hopes of a better and fairer democracy has just been dashed!

God bless Nigeria
