WHEN THE UNEXPECTED HAPPENS
No one prays for the storm of life. Consequently, the solution does not lie in human permutation and combination; not even in your profession, philosophy and ideology. To some religious minds, failing is not even an option. They believe it will never happen to them because, they are this or that for the Lord or maybe perhaps they know how to rebuke it! However, disappointment, failure and defeat are most times not envisaged, thought of, planned for and expected but often come no matter how perfect our strategy and schemes are. What we called the ‘issues and circumstances’ of life have no respect for religion. Circumstances and situations of life may hinder us but, cannot stop us from actualizing our dreams. Therefore, when the unexpected happened, when the carefully crafted and meticulously plan hit the rock and when there is alteration, diversion and roadblock to the roadmap and blueprint do the following:
i. Be cool. Be calm and be collected: You have nothing to lose but everything to gain with a settled and relaxed mind. Right attitude is everything. Agitation, confusion, anxiety and worry would not add value to the present predicament to calm, spirited and relaxed nerves. Be patient and you will shift from being a victim to victor. If need be go to sleep. Sleep over it and check intermittently and occasionally to discern what went wrong. Let your mind start working on all possible solutions available. Let your mind begin to download possible solutions and pen them down as they come. There is no limit to the benefits of gentle, calm, steady and stabilize character and mind. Maintain a perfect and unagitated decorum and spirit and you will see and experience wonders!
ii. Review your plan: Never mind, and don't be afraid of little changes, alterations and adjustments where necessary. It is better to correct in the immediate than progressing in errors for a very long time. Do the needful now!
iii. Re-strategize: Perhaps there was nothing wrong with the formal strategy or plan that hit the rock but the prevailing circumstances, timing, economic policy and program and politics and politicking or changes in government or social standards or taste. Therefore, a review would be needed to incorporate, integrate, accommodate and factor in the present situation and peculiarity to make it work.
iv. Take a better shot at it again: It is often said, ‘it is not in the business world that you take a shot in the dark’. Arm and guide yourself with enough information that will enhance you take a clean clear cut decision better than the previous pursuit.
v. Don’t go to sleep until you are done: A lot are done negatively in our absence and while failing to keep watching our ‘shots’ and ‘actions’ in form of monitoring and evaluation! Therefore, adopt the monitoring and evaluation strategy and scheme for a better executed plan and performance.
