crackhouse:
my friend shut with that ur CGPA and be humble for once. Do u think u are a genius because u came out with 3.3 cgpa? I can see the reason why u were not called back. Na Pride go kill u. And for thinking that u are intelligent is a very big mistake u are making?

Bros why the harsh statement? That's not PRIDE sir, I only replied a funny post that's all.

When you include your cgpa in your cv, you limit your chances of meeting with the recruiter and proving your potential. For example Mr. A is looking at employing an assistant with 2.1 or 1st class. Mr. X graduated with 2.2 but he did not indicate that on his cv. Mr. A called him up for interview and at the end of the session he found out about his result and exclaimed 'how did a bright and intelligent man like you graduate with a 2.2? You know what I'm going to give you a chance!'

If Mr. X had included his cgpa in his cv, he never would have gotten the chance to meet with Mr. A and prove his worth.

Just remove your grade or CGPA from your CV, apply, go for interviews when called and u will get a good job. Some organizations these days don't look out for grades but your ability to deliver what is expected of u, even so many 3rd class candidates are working in good companies, one company rejecting u doesn't mean others won't accept u. ALL DA BEST!

Good responses @ Jangabanthelion & Fried plantain (though I didn't quote you).

I had a 2.2 but I think I can look back and say I have tried for myself. These are some of the things I did and I'm not saying it will work same way for everybody but hey say LUCK is when OPPORTUNITY meets PREPAREDNESS.

1. I prepared hard for aptitude tests - I actually started preparing during my youth service even before I started applying for jobs.
2. I added a higher degree - Luckily, I got a job not too long after my service. I had started a masters degree but had to abandon it since I had to change location. I started another masters program in an area that is in my list of future interests and completed it.
3. I am still developing myself - 19 years after graduation but I'm still reading. one additional MSc (making 2) a couple of Certificates/diplomas (not two weeks classes o) with serious demanding online learning contents.

One last thing is that I never really felt comfortable with myself. I could afford not to bother about 2 and 3 above because my first salary (per month o) was more than what either of my parents got as gratuity payment (roughly 3 years' salary) after serving government for >30 years. However, it was not enough to make me forget myself. That salary has grown in exponentials but I'm still improving myself.

Again, maybe that's my own way of keeping myself happy so it may not apply to everyone.

Kidos to you sir, you are my kind of person. That the kind of thing I aspire to do but money has been an hindrance.

As soon as I get a good job, I will embark on it.

Its so pathetic and demoralizing that we leave in a country where certificate is the most sort after by our indigenous firms and even foreign firms. I sat down after going through NYSC and My parents are already looking at me in 3D as regards what's next.

I submitted my spiral bind C.V but the Secretary of that firm quickly glanced through my details but was disappointed to see 2:2 (3.32 CGPA) which stated in it and told me straight-up that I shouldn't be expecting a call!! I was pissed off, do u mean 3.32 CGPA is a poor result? I just went out and up till now after 3month no call from them.

The question is where are we going in this country? Two(2) factors all companies display while placing recruitment adverts; Your Age (24yrs nd below) and supposed good grade (1st class or 2:1). Now tell me are graduates with 2:2 really that lazy while in school? The Answer is simply 'NO' so many factors are really involved, I've seen a brilliant guy in school who felt sick on the day of his set last papers which sucked his GP heavily.

If you've got your 1st class or 2:1 and you are gainfully employed in a cool company with good pay lucky you and I wish you all the best, for those still looking out for a good job the lord shall answer "OUR" prayers but doing something with your saved Allawee is not a bad idea anyway!!

Happy Weekend!!

I can bet that you finished from a federal uni..
. where they still have carryovers, extra year and little/ no consideration for students atal (mayb due to d large numbers I don't know)

now that's why I do complain about private unis... they dish out 1st class and 2:1 like it's nothing... just so their graduates can have upper hand in d labour market..
it's so sad really... most of their 1st class are not even as diligent & hardworking as a 2:2 or 3rd class from a fed. skol

I thinks something needs to be done about it... just imagime me going to a skol without extra year, will write summer exam if i fail.. l I mean it's not fair

[b]I hate when 2.2 and third class graduates come online and b1tch-cry every damn time, reading the OP 's post that reeks of low self-worth even annoys me more.

A lot of second class lower and third class graduates are getting good jobs daily in this country, if they all come online complaining and heaping blames on the companies that discriminated against them because of their grade, they won't be where they are right now.

What you need to do now is to work on your CV, remove your CGPA from that CV and remove the "second class lower" you have there as well. If your CGPA is not up to 4.00, it is not advisable to have it on CV and except you are applying for a government job, use "Second class (honours) instead of 'second class lower"

I always try as much as possible to advise third class and 2:2 graduates to boost their chance of securing a job by going for professional courses and if possible getting necessary internship experience.

I' m also a 2:2 graduate but rather than letting my average grade weigh me down, I registered for ICAN during my service year. Today, I'm a chartered accountant, gainfully employed and earning a relatively good pay.

Institution matters to some companies o, some will tell you only federal universities e.g Access bank graduate trainee accepts only federal universities with exception of 3 state unis and 3 private unis
what are d state and private universities bro?

i will agree with you to an extent, because your case is similar to mine.

i left school with 3.30 CGPA and age was even a disadvantage for me as i was alread clocking 33yrs when graduating in 2004 but i do not allow that to deter me.

1.Think of using internet to your own advantage e.g i joined nairaland as early and i was able to see what other people does to work over there own tribulations.

2.You can start thinking of volunteering your time, knowledge and skills to get more experience and create opportunity for yourself.

All these are things i did during my time and today with the help of God i can beat my chest that things are good and will still be better for me.

Thats the little i can remember for now.
