No doubt Linda Ikeji has succeeded in commercializing her blog and the financial rewards trickles in leaps and bounds.

I made some enquiries from someone close to Linda Ikeji about her business model and I must say it is really nothing extraordinary.

So how does it work?

Linda Ikeji does not have any corporate identity - she operates as Linda Ikeji. She has no corporate account but her bank account where her clients pay her fees to advertise on her blog.

Everyday the blog has at least 20 sponsored stories and she charge N50,000 per story. That's a cool N1 million daily from sponsored stories. This means she makes at least N30 million in a month from clients who wants her to publish their stories on her blog.

In addition to that, the blog rakes in a huge chunk from big companies like MTN, Globacom, Access Bank, Zenith bank et al who do special adverts called blog takeover. For blog takeover she charge N550,000 per week. Access bank and currently MTN at the last count have taken over the blog for a cumulative 16 weeks. Multiply 16 by N550,000 shekels and we have a figure in the neighborhood of N8 million.

Jumia paid N12 million for advert on the blog for one year. The cheapest she charge for advert placement on the blog is N300,000.

In the run up to the general election, I was told that there was a particular months that she made a whopping N300 million from politicians who advertised on her blog.

All these payments are made directly into her bank account. Before she moved into her N500 million (or is it N850 million?) home in Banana Island, she operated from her Surulere home. She has no office, she pays no rent. In addition to herself, she has three other staff whose job is to scout for news on her payroll. They are on a monthly stipend of N100,000.

The cost of running the blog on a monthly basis is less than N500,000 if you put the cost of diesel for generator, internet subscription and payment of staff salary together.

From advert placement and sponsored stories, the blog makes an annual turnover in the region of N500 million. Is anyone surprised that she could afford a house valued at half a billion Naira in Banana Island?

The big question here is, apart from bank charges on her cash inflow and other, does Linda Ikeji's blog pay tax to any tax agency/agencies in Nigeria? It will be interesting to see her tax returns for the year 2015.[as Culled from Sunday A.]

When U start making money, people start to poke nose

Everyone starts to investigate for whatever reason.
