Pr0ton: Then does it not further accentuate the fact that it actually happened, afterall they do not deny it as an event in their history? How about the evidence of instantaneous transformation of lives experienced by those who repented and believed (just as Jesus said it will be)? It will be wrong to claim those were brainwashed! Why? I have no records of people being forced and harangued (tools for brainwashing) to believe the Gospel! Some heard it presented just once in all simplicity, believed and were transformed! 2 Likes 2 Shares |

chuna1985: Because folks have refused to wake up and smell the coffee. Read the evidence of Jesus resurrection below and come to your own conclusion. The fact that Abraham Lincoln was born, became president, or was assassinated cannot be proven using scientific methods. To be scientific it must be repeatable (as in the testing of gravity). The proofs that Lincoln did exist and was a historical figure are: 1. The written evidence, 2. Eyewitness testimony, 3. Physical evidence that remains to this day at the Ford Theatre, birth records and newspaper articles regarding his election. All these facts are acceptable in a court of law as proof to a judge and jury. Garry T. Ansdell (D.D.) made a case out of this when he stated that "The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead is evidential: 1. the empty tomb still exists, 2. His birth record is documented all the way back to Adam and Eve, 3. the four Gospels record His death; 4. the location, even the names of the political leaders who sentenced Him are historically recorded; 5. there were more than five hundred eyewitnesses who saw Jesus after the resurrection, recorded by the New Testament writers; 6. the very existence of the Christian faith, based on His death and resurrection; 7. the cultural and political evidence at the time, including the Roman calender separating all of time into Before Christ (B.C.) and in the year of our Lord (A.D.)." 1 Like 2 Shares |

OLAADEGBU: Clearly Gary T. Andsell (D.D.) is a clown, where is this extraordinary evidence of the resurrection of Jesus? The Romans recorded everything but not a word about an itinerant Jewish preacher who was crucified and resurrected. How kindly do you think the Romans would take to an itinerant preacher who had been sentenced to death for rabble rousing, crucified and buried and then had the chutzpah not only to get up again, but also to parade himself around town for, well.....what was it again.....40 days? I think we all know all hell would have been let loose. |

Sarassin: "Hell" Hades was surely let loose on that day: "And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose. And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared to many" (Matthew 27:53). |

OLAADEGBU: Silly me, of course quite a few resurrections took place that day, and in light of what you just pointed out these saints, who presumably had been dead for quite a while performed a feat that trumped that of Jesus. Pity the Romans neglected to record this monumental feat of divine re-animation. Please enlighten me, did the saints who resurrected go into town, have a jug or two of wine, do a jig, have fine dining with their families and live happily ever after....or did they experience a second death. Give me ONE instance of a historically contemporary account of the resurrection of Jesus. |

chuna1985: What year is it now? It's been over 2,000 years "since Christ" (AD). That should give you a clue outside the Bible if His birth record would not suffice. 1 Like |

OLAADEGBU: Point is there isn't any, circumstantial or otherwise. You are confusing biblical accounts with "evidence", If the Romans or any other disinterested party had recorded these events (You only needed ONE Roman to have recorded this momentous event independently) then you would not be "trawling" around for evidence to substantiate the resurrection, it would be self-evident, you wouldn't have to make spurious connections with the death of Abraham Lincoln (who has direct living descendants) to that of Jesus who's very existence is the subject of much debate. |

OLAADEGBU: Extraordinary claim: Jesus physically rose from the dead Extraordinary evidence: 1. Textual reliability of the ancient document 2. Retention of crucifixion wounds post event 3. Post-death appearances to many people 4. Prophetic fulfilment Not so extraordinary evidence: 5. Accounts written by eyewitnesses 6. No counter historic information 7. Jesus' body is gone from the tomb 8. Changed lives To be continued... |
Re: Does The Bible Provide Extraordinary Evidence Of Jesus' Resurrection? by OLAADEGBU(m): 10:16am On Nov 02, 2015 |
OLAADEGBU: 1. Textual reliability of the ancient document: The New Testament documents are 99.5% textually pure. This is indeed an extraordinary fact since all other ancient documents do not even approach this level of accuracy. 2. Retention of crucifixion wounds post event: This would indeed be an extraordinary evidence of a resurrection to see the actual holes in Jesus' hands and side after He had died on the cross. "Then He said to Thomas, "Reach here your finger, and see My hands; and reach here your hand, and put it into My side; and be not unbelieving, but believing" (John 20:27). 3. Post-death appearances to many people: It is indeed extraordinary to have someone who has died in public at an execution to appear to many people afterwards. "And after eight days again His disciples were inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors having been shut, and stood in their midst, and said, "Peace be with you" (John 20:26). 4. Prophetic fulfillment: Fulfilling prophecies made hundreds of years earlier about Jesus' birth, death, crucifixion, and resurrection is indeed extraordinary. 5. Accounts written by eyewitnesses: It is perfectly ordinary to have people write about what they saw. History is full of such accounts. 6. No counter historic information. There is no contradictory historical information concerning Jesus' resurrection. This doesn't prove anything, but when the Gospels were written, people contemporary to the described events (Jews, Romans, etc.,) could have easily written something refuting or correcting the resurrection account. No such writings exist. This isn't extraordinary, but it is important. 7. Jesus' body is gone from the tomb: It is not extraordinary for a body to disappear from a tomb if we realize that it could have been stolen. We can see that there is sufficient reasons to believe that the Bible does indeed provide extraordinary evidence for an extraordinary claim, namely, the resurrection of Jesus. |
