Has the bad reputation of Nigeria(e.g. Boko Haram) affected you negatively each time you introduce yourself as a Nigerian to foreigners?

Or have you started claiming to come from another country?

I tell them that I'm Yoruba.

Most people know and favor Yorubas. I've been blessed.

It has affected me negatively.

But I waits patiently to see the end of the zoo?
I wait peacefully for the new born country.
Cos I see the end of the zoo.
I believes the zoo will fall.

So that the embarrassment and harassment will stop.

Biafrans abroad re more recognised and favour than nigeria nationality.

To be honest, our worst reputation which affects is is that of fraud and 419.

In England, even fellow blacks are wary of Naija boys and their credit card/online scams.

Personally however, no...but the stereotype exists.

It depends. In certain situations it helps, sometimes it does not.

When you are a black candidate seeking job employment, mentioning being a Nigerian often helps because you are automatically assumed to be smart and capable of doing the job. It has come to my notice that many Americans often tend to know there are differences between black groups such as between Nigerians and African Americans etc. This is more true in places where previous Nigerians have been and left behind a good name. In some job places where bad eggs did unworthy things, they might be wary of you sort of even though they acknowledge you are smart and capable.

In certain places, it is sometimes best not to mention being Nigerian, due to some pre-conceived notions about Nigerians people carry about. The American media is not helping matters either as they only showcase they bad sides of Nigeria.

it will surely affect you if you claim Nigerian.

Just say you are from ghana or Sierra Leone and you won't have any more troubles, suspicion or anger towards you.

i stopped saying i was originally from nigeria more than 4 years ago and now i have more sincere and trusting friends abroad.

Nigerians in diaspora deny their nationalities because of those guys that specialise in swallowing and pooing cocaine not because of those ones who stash money in swiss accounts
