Nigerian Army has released 182 Boko Haram suspects from Maimalari Barracks in Maiduguri, Borno state.

Army Spokesman, Colonel SK Usman, revealed that the “joint intelligence community investigated and authorized” the release of these prisoners. He added that the release was part of Nigeria’s National Army Day, which was held on July 6th to commemorate the first shots of Nigeria’s Civil War at Garaken, Cross Rivers State.

The prisoners were reportedly released to the governor of Borno state, Kashim Shettima.

According to Sahara reporters, 40 boys, 24 women, 100 adult men and 18 children were among those released today.

In addition to the prisoner release, Colonel Usman said that the Army was celebrating the opening of a new military center, providing two days of free medical treatment for Borno State residents, and awarding Purple Heart and Operation Zaman Lafiya medals to soldiers fighting Boko Haram. All these events were tied to Nigeria’s National Army Day.

Meanwhile, the military had confirmed that more people detained for alleged links with the Boko Haram sect will be released after being cleared by its joint intelligence cell.

Sometimes last month, the Nigerian army handed over four foreigners and 124 Nigerians detained in connection with the Boko Haram terrorist group to Kashim Shettima, the governor of Borno state.

They arrest them, keep them in dehumanising conditions, later clear them, release them to the governor, the governor compensates them with 100k each, they go back home, they think about the dehumanising conditions they were kept, they finally decide to join the terrorists, they use the same money given to them to buy weapons, another epic insurgency begins!

Re: Nigerian Military Releases 182 Boko Haram Prisoners by eshietIntrepid(m): 8:05am On Nov 02, 2015
Released them as what? As born again muslims or as innocent nigerian arrested wrongly. Or you released them in order to join their rank again?

Why release them now that the boko Haram are not completely defeated.

Subversion, is the name of the game. Bombs under GEJ was understandable;North wanted power. And we all thought relinquishing power to the North was going to fix this, but how wrong we were. Bombs under PMB is more concerning. Its end not too predictable. Every right thinking Nigerian should implore PMB to start leading and forget about this phantom fight against corruption. Focus on strengthening institutions like they did with fertilizer crimes, ghost workers etc and corruption will gradually fizzle out. You do not open war on all fronts when you lack the resources. This is going to be worse since the internal security GEJ set up to prevent this madness from getting to the south is not strong anymore, things can really go SOUTH (literally and figuratively) easily. If you are currently in Nigeria, it is time to be really scared. Nigerians, arise and ask PMB to start leading. Recession, Hunger, Poverty and now DEATH.
