It’svery very morally justified smiley and you cant just be working for the whole 8hrs, that’s why we have tinyurl, facebook and twitter etc, so that you can take your mind away from work issues when your manager is not looking, if not we can all just go crazy sitting behind our desk working like a slave all day. We are not robots smiley! This is one of big discussion in UK media recently when some employers blocked access to social networking sites.

I’m so glad that Nairaland is not blocked on the corporate site of my work like other sites I mentioned above but trust me, as long as I get my job done, I won’t feel guilt for surfing the net and viewing an educative site like Nairaland where I can reach my people from other parts of the world.

No employers reading this will be happy but it’s a very interesting question, hope you get more response and then make up your mind.

well, for some jobs, you're allowed and even expected to use the internet while on duty.

eg security guard jobs grin grin  with those ones, we surf the web, load up on coffee or soda, and log off to walk around and secure the premises. grin grin Some watch porn, others (like me) log on Nairaland or some other site. Which is better? You do the math. wink

for other jobs, as long as the top shots arent complaining, then by all means stay on Nairaland. However, the day they decide to start logging productivity due to the credit crunch, better gerrup sharp sharp! grin Push some files around like Nigerian civil servants do grin

The morality question is not important, what is important is whether your company monitors internet usage and you suddenly find that your ass is kicked out of the door undecided undecided

Abuse of IT facilities and a sackable offence

From 100 posts btw 9-5 down to 10 posts, is not a bad effort! grin

From next week, i will be banning NL while i am at work.

Fuc.k it, the nonsense has to stop!

You are missing the point here

It is not right to fuc.k about on a site like this, at work

Some work places dont give a flying zip if you piss abut on facebook

But going by general IT code of conduct at work, it is still mis-use of IT facilities!

I must tell you that at times, when i log on to NL at work, some topics and PM messages are filtered and blocked

Now that shouldnt be the case if it was right!

It is however up to other companies or organisations to relax the rules!

Ideally it isn’t rite but as they say all work and no play makes jack a dull boy!

But beyond all this, time is the most precious thing we’ve got. . if you give something or someone ur time. . u re actually giving them part of ur life. . .so time is precious

Use it, don’t abuse it and remember never mistake motion for action

Definately Justifiable!
My Boss is aware of my Nairaland addiction and he is in full support because it makes me sit my butt in one place for a long time and that way, I get things done(according to him). . .If not for Nairaland, Bank Job would have driven me crazy.
