EXCLUSIVE: MANU GARBA HIT ABA FOR U-17
SCREENING

.........................................................................................

Head coach of Nigeria U-17 team Manu Garba will be in Aba, Abia State Nigeria to conduct a three day screening exercise to scout for players for his next U-17 team.

Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal that the
soft spoken coach will also visit Nnewi in Anambra state on his scouting mission, a move a close source said is connected to his desire to do well with the U-17.

“He is in Aba already and that is his first point of call in the East as he has heard a lot about the talent base of the team” He told owngoalnigeria.com.

”Coach Manu will also visit Nnewi and Enugu all in his bid to search for players from all the nook and cranny of Nigeria, he will get to Lagos but that might be the last lap of his tour”.

The coach who led Nigeria to the U-17 trophy in
2013 is hoping to reenact the feat after failing with
the U-20 at the last World Youth Championship in
New Zealand that lead to his demotion to the U-17.

Fulham Midfielder Adeniran Shines In England Win; Arsenal Defender Bola Benched

Fulham starlet Dennis Adeniran assisted England U17s beat their Finnish counterparts 1-0 in the Young Lions second match at the UEFA European U17 Championship Elite Qualifying Round on Saturday afternoon.

The attacking midfielder was one of the two fresh faces in the starting line-up, having come off the bench in the win against Turkey two days ago.

The 17-year-old Adeniran played the entirety of the game at Harrison Park, Leek Town FC, whereas Arsenal defender Tolaji Bola was an unused substitute for the second game in a row.

He would have opened scoring in the first-half but his 25-yard effort narrowly missed the target before Dozzell netted the match-winner in the 33rd minute.

England will qualify for the 2016 UEFA European Under-17 Championship in Azerbaijan if they avoid defeat to Ukraine on Tuesday evening at Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium.

FORGET IWOBI AND NWAKALI, READ ABOUT THE FOUR OTHER NIGERIAN TEEN TIP FOR BREAKTHROUGH AT ARSENAL

Toby Omole- A centre-back who is a graduate of Arsenal’s Hale End academy, Omole has struggled on the few occasions he’s played for the U18s so far but he fared rather better in the Future Cup and could have an important part to play for Frans De Kat’s team next season.

Joseph Olowu- The centre-back has been a mainstay for the U16s this season and has been offered a scholarship deal for next campaign, with the youngster hoping to show that he can deal with the step up to U18 football.

Xavier Amaechi- A player with much potential, Amaechi usually features as an attacking midfielder and, as he demonstrated against Ajax, is capable of finishing well. The youngster will be a regular for the U16s next season and may also make some appearances for the U18s.

Olujimi Olayinka- A midfielder who is a good dribbler and passer, Olayinka is highly regarded by the club’s coaching staff and will be seeking to make a sizeable impact for the U16s next season.

This thread is very dry, we are not hearing anything from Manu's side. This u17 is very very important as far as we want our football to keep developing. I think by nw, we should have been hearing Trials, Screenings, names and stuff like that.

Manu has already begun. Scroll up this page.

Those are part of his schedules for screening new U-17 players.

It's the information from these screenings that's lacking for now. But not to worry, the thread will begin bubbling as soon as any U-17 news pops up and also when friendlies and qualifiers come into play.

MANU GARBA HAS NO IMMEDIATE PLANS OF GOING TO LAGOS TO SCOUT FOR U-17 PLAYERS

Head coach of the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria Manu Garba won’t be arriving Lagos anytime soon to scout for players contrary to reports going round.

The soft spoken coach is presently in Gombe drawing up training programmes for the U-17 who are most likely to be in camp before the end of this month.

“I have plans of scouting for players around Nigeria using different strategies not necessarily same approach like we did in other states” the soft spoken coach told Owngoalnigeria.com from his base in Gombe.

We gathered from sources close to the coach that in 2013 when he discovered the likes of Kelechi Iheanacho and Isacc Success, Taiwo Awoniyi,Musa Yahaya, Wilfred Ndidi among others he mainly played friendly games with their nursery teams from where they were picked.

It appears after his scouting mission in the North,South East and South South Nigeria he will most likely engage teams based in the South West region of Nigeria in friendly games from where talented players will be scouted and invited to join his team.

Coach of Nigeria U-17 team, Manu Garba has returned from his scouting trip to Uyo, Akwa Ibom state and is presently in Abuja ahead of camping for the Nigeria U-17 team.

Owngoalnigeria.com had a chat with the soft spoken coach on the success of his scouting tour that has seen him visit Owerri, Porthacourt, Aba, Kaduna and Uyo.
“We have done a lot and we have around 65 players we hope to call at different intervals when we camping begins” He told Owngoalnigeria.com.

“I am through with phase one of my programme and the next phase will be playing games against teams from where we can pick one or two players, that was how I discovered Isaac Success”.

On reports that he will visit Lagos, the coach once again reiterated that the city isn’t in his plans in terms of visiting to scout for players but he has drawn up a programme that will adequately cover almost the entire state to fish out talents.

“No Lagos trip for me as we have less time on our hands but we have design a programme for the state which we believe will help us discover more talent than if we visit”.

Nigeria Lagging Behind England For Services Of Highly-Rated Arsenal Goalie Arthur

The English FA is ahead of the Nigeria Football Federation for the services of highly-rated Arsenal goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo.

The Gunners U15s netminder has made remarkable progress at Arsenal since he joined the club and is on the brink of earning a promotion to the U18s after he made the squad for their 4-1 win over Sunderland U18s last Friday.

Arthur Okonkwo has been described by one of his peers, who keeps goal for a rival London team, as a goalkeeper with good reflexes and has tipped him to make the grade at Arsenal.

“He is a good goalkeeper, good overall. He is good in shot-stopping and distribution, I have played against him,” the source told allnigeriasoccer.com.

“For his age, he is tall for a goalkeeper. England are ahead of Nigeria now for his services.”

Arthur Okonkwo has played for England at U15 level.

Great find! Meanwhile this kid reminds me of another U-15/U-16 goalkeeping talent named Edward Ogbebor Onaiwu of Charlton Athletic.

In March 2015, He was invited by Siasia to the U-23 camp but he couldn't make it.

In June of same year (2015) it was reported that he rejected an invitation to England's St.George's park training for the English players and was looking forward to being featured in Amuneke's U-17 side prior to Chile 2015.
Seems he didn't turn up as well or couldn't make the team (not sure which one).

His style was compared to Enyeama and he's about 15 or 16 yrs old now.

Arthur Okonkwo and Edward Ogbebor Onaiwu, two foreign-born names to keep eyes on then.

Hopes Akpan Udoh and Amos Benjamin develop real good also to give us options just in case.

And really hope Manu Garba finds another goalkeeping super gem at U-17 level.

Nice work Sir BlackAlbino6. Radar's turned on this kid too. #smiles

Contrary to what some believe, inviting someone with a reputation as this to the U17 is not a bad idea.

That is the simple point. Invite the exceptional ones and make them feel more Nigerian. I strongly believe inviting 3 to 4 foreign born players for the youth teams is not against our youth project. I repeat 'invite the exceptional ones; those ones whose talent its clear is so evident.

Nigeria to try to convince Sheyi Ojo, others to play for Eagles
Biyi Akangbe

A top official of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has hinted that the Football House has set its sight on getting the trio of Dominic Solanke (Chelsea), Sheyi Ojo (Liverpool) and Ademola Lookman (Charlton Athletic) play for the Super Eagles.

The three players are all 18 years old and all but Lookman have represented England at under age levels and a source in the NFF told Nation Sport that some persons in the Glasshouse depending on the availability of funds will soon be embarking on tour of some England and Holland to woo eligible Nigerians to represent their place of origin.

The source specifically disclosed that after the success story of Alex Iwobi who now plays for the Eagles after the intervention of the NFF, the mentioned trio alongside Chuba Akpom(Arsenal) and a 12-year-old Lateef Omidiji Jr (FC Dordrecht U-14) who is said could spark a bidding war between Nigeria and the USA are all closely being monitored.

Nation Sport gathered that the NFF scouts will strive to make these players commit their allegiance to Nigeria and not follow the trend some of their compatriots took in the past only to be used and dumped by their preferred foreign countries.

Ojo is now an established Liverpool winger and Solanke is also being closely monitored by Chelsea in Vitesse Arnhem (Holland) where is presently on loan after he emerged as Chelsea Youth Player of the Year in 2015 while Lookman is also trying his best as a striker with Charlton Athletic and he is rumoured to be on the radar of Arsenal FC.

United States Move Ahead Of Nigeria, Holland For Services Of FC Dordrecht Wonderkid Lateef Omidiji Jr

Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) have set the ball rolling in their bid to cap the highly-rated FC Dordrecht striker Lateef Omidiji Jr.

Lateef was born on September 12, 2003 in the United States to a Nigerian father and an American mother from Las Vegas which makes him eligible to represent the Americans, but it will be a major coup if the Technical Committee and the NFF Board manage to convince him to wear the colours of Nigeria’syouth teams.

This website has been informed that the USSF, from the President to the technical staff, are very keen on the young star and plan to invite him to camp with their U14s this summer

Lateef Omidiji Jr. is an attacker in the mould of Barcelona star Luis Suárez, not a huge dribbler but very technical, very fast, a great finisher and is a player that can change a game with one touch.

FC Dordrecht U14s coach has remarked that he would ask the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) how they can expedite his citizenship because they don’t want to play against him at international youth tournaments in the future.

Several European clubs are monitoring the progress of Lateef Omidiji Jr. at FC Dordrecht but are aware that they can not agree terms with the player until he attains the age of majority.

He is believed to be on the radar of English Premier League clubs after putting himself in the shop window at the Keele Cup in Manchester in 2013 where he showed his speed and technical skills playing against some of the top 13 year olds in Europe.

It is illogical for us to carry U17 foreign based trainees. How can we do that when we have few programs to groom the young ones here?

If any foreign trainee must play U17 World Cup to feel Nigerian, then that player does not have what it takes to play for us.

Iwobi did not need the U17 to feel Nigerian.

The U17 is a breeding ground for our local based talents. After the growth of Success and Iheanacho, I wonder why anyone will recommend us fielding foreign pros at the U17.

If the are good enough, they should go an compete for a place in the U20. If they are not up to that level, they should grow to the level.

We have more talents wasting in the country, trying to feed in a drought. Dropping them for players operating in Greener pastures is inhumane.

For every Alaba and Dele Alli we lose, we lose hundreds more due to our inability to provide favorable opportunities for our young talents.

Dropping more home based lads in the U17 for foreign trainees, will mean increasing the pool of our lost stars.

Imagine dropping Iheanacho for Solanke because Solanke was a Nigerian Chelsea trainee.

If they love Nigeria, they will wait and play in the U20.

The U17 World Cup is a successful grassroots development program. Why Change a winning formula?

“He is a good goalkeeper, good overall. He is good in shot-stopping and distribution, I have played against him,” the source told allnigeriasoccer.com.

“For his age, he is tall for a goalkeeper. England are ahead of Nigeria now for his services.”

Arthur Okonkwo has played for England at U15 level.

I have not seen him play but I doubt he is as good as a young Akpan "The Cat" Bassey or Ajiboye. So I doubt he is worth us struggling for. Let us scout more talents in our grassroots. In the U20, we can select the best among them.

Who is talking of dropping one player for the other? We're saying, invite players like this kid who are highly regarded to camp because he is also a Nigerian and have him compete with his fellow countrymen. If he shows his stuff in camp, take him. If not, leave him behind. But you gotta give them a chance.

Habib Makanjuola was at Chelsea when he was invited to the training camp. He became a squad member at the U17 World cup.

I am saying use the U17 to find talents as good, close to or better than these Foreign trainees. Give the the required education to grow and see if we can discover another Alampasu. Carrying an Arsenal trainee to camp takes away the chance of giving another young Nigerian education.

This Arsenal Keeper does not equate to grassroots development. Use the U17 for developing players in our grassroot system. Then those from the U17 and the foreign trainees can battle for spots in the U20.

You have not seen someone play, but you still went ahead to doubt the persons abilities. That is serious. May be because of your love for home grown talents right?

Now Sir, if you seriously want Nigerian grassroot football development to grow, it must not depend solely on the CAF AND FIFA U17 tournaments or age grade competitions.

Depending on FIFA age grade competitions a lone won't take us any where.

Why can't we encourage all our Clubs to buy into the idea of having age grade teams like the Europeans do. In England, all the Clubs do this and its yielding results for their Clubs.

So we should do same. If it works there then, It will also work here.

Alaba and Adebayor came to audition for under 17 but we rejected them for 'grassroots' players, some of whom were old men.

Which Nigerian left back in our history is as good as Alaba?
How many strikers have we had that were as good as Adebayor at his prime?, you can count them on one hand.

If we see exceptional talent, we should get them, home or abroad.

Ike Ugbo grabs 24th goal for Chelsea U18s

Ike Ugbo - Chelsea U18 striker

Anglo-Nigerian striker Ike Ugbo scored a brace as Chelsea U18s came from behind twice to draw 2-2 with the Liverpool in the club’s final home game of the season.

The 15-year old equalised for Chelsea with a header only three minutes after Herbie Kane had put Liverpool ahead in the game, for what was his 23rd goal in all competitions.

The Liverpool youngsters were however better on the day, as they went ahead again through Adam Philips, and they could have easily wrapped up the game, but missed a series of chances to bury the young Blues.

With Liverpool failing to convert their chances, Ugbo leveled things for Chelsea again with 15 minutes left on the clock, as he found space in front of the Liverpool defence and advanced to the edge of the box, before dispatching a neat finish into the back of the net.

The goal was the young striker’s 24th of the season, making him the top scorer in both the league and the cup.

Ugbo was born in London to Nigerian parents and is currently an England U17 international, who featured at last year’s FIFA U17 World Cup in Chile.
