If I were in his shoes I'd give two answers, thus:
logically, in Mathematics, depending on the base system, 1+1 is two calculating in base 10.
On the brighter side, I think 1 + 1 is 1. Every organization need to have employees working towards a common goal, which requires cooperations, innovations, shatring ideas e.t.c. In this context, team work cannot be over- or under-emphasized. Many sticks make a broom. Therefore, 1 + 1 is one!

The op hs answered d question already, going by merger and acquisition, one could deduced that when two firms come together to perform a task, d outcome wil b greater than when they perform it individually. this could be seen in Synergistic value of 2+2>4.
the op question and answer is correct base on synergy 1+1>2
As a staff the outcome u will get when u perform a task alone will b lower than when u perform dsame task with your subordinate. that is d essence of synergy.

During the industrial revolution, people weren't interviewed to be employed not to talk of asking these kind of questions. Scarcity of jobs have led to interview sessions where questions without correct or wrong answers are asked.

Don't feel bad if you don't get the job as a result of these kind of questions. They determine nothing! My candid opinion

1+1=2 (in decimal number system)

1+1=10 (in binary number system)

1+1=1 (Maritally)

This question, like most interview questions, is not a function of right or wrong. I want to believe the interviewer wants to understand how the applicants thinks. I would advise that one answers this question in context. Pick a particular context, give your answer and explain in that context. Brevity is also very important so dont just go off in a tangent
na RUBBISH you just dey talk!

Simply, u re ask after ur approach to confidence. That question and many more is the easier way of testing confidence and creativity on employee.
It also bring out the best in communication skill. Many will switched off from that moment on d interview.

When asked such question, don't just go dumb/silent or give plain answer as 2 undecided . Give a SMART 2 to 3mins response in that respect, for fvcksake you are a graduate act like one! 1+1 can be anything(e.g infinity), how you are able to convince me (the interviewer) that 1+1 is infinity is what I am after I.e your thought process.
and how would a graduate act like one sir undecided

Okay, this is my first time but I wanna share a confusing experience

I was preparing for the labour market about a year ago, after graduation, and having no clue even what my CV should look like and all

To cut the chase, I went online for possible interview questions and I stumbled on this 'guy's experience on an interview question that made me realise people think differently

The person in question said he went for an interview and was asked only 1 question, off course after the normal introduce yourself speech. The question was:

What is 1+1?

He said, as to this simplicity, he was confused, as you know how all these logical questions you're not supposed to assume is as easy as it looks but he was famished at this level.

To cut it short ,I was following the tread and found out saying '2' might have gotten this guy the job or maybe not. In a nutshell, he said nothing as he asked for the interviewer to explain and he did nothing but to repeat the question that

'What is 1+1?

He couldn't answer this and didn't get a call back.

Now am asking you guys how y'all will approach this question and what will be your response?

Close the door and curtains, ask the interviewer what he wants the answer to be. If he wants it to be 2million, then it's 2million.
Re: The Crazy Interview Question "What Is 1+1?" by AfroKnight: 7:12pm On Nov 29, 2015
There is nothing special about this question. If the interviewer expected anything different from 2 then he or she needs to have his head checked.

You would end up with impractical employees if you pick those who cannot tell you the simple truth. 1 + 1 = 2.

There is a myriad of answers for that question and for him/her to think you would pick her/his harebrained solution is the height of delusion.

I can totally relate to this, I was recruiting for a company in Abuja, and I gave the ladies my pen to put down their names on a piece of paper, and then asked them to sell me that pen (of course I needed to analyse the creative skills and see how quick they think on their feet), I must say tho I wasn't impressed, I think people should really get to expose themselves enough to hold their forte however.

Psychology is all, you work on my psychology I work on yours..

Simple answer is
Mathematically the answer is 2 but in management synergy the answer is 3.
Meaning when we pull two resources together in effective and efficient ways, we have a results that will equal to three.

Reminds me of giringori. He said in arithmetic class, one day the teacher told them "two plus two equal to four". The next day same teacher told them "one plus three equal to four". So he then stood up and asked the man "excuse me sir, what is the full meaning of plus?"
And the man asked him to get out of the class
