In recent times, the Buhari led administration has reaffirmed her commitment to diversify our economy from oil to Agriculture.
Agriculture has we all know is mainly practiced in the rural communities and a major way to boost agricultural production is making life comfortable for rural dwellers. One of the ways at which life can be made comfortable for rural dwellers is the provision and supply of electricity without which will encourage Rural Urban Migration which will thus discourage practicing Agriculture.
Lack of power supply in approximately 3 months has brought about the Clamour of some Rural communities in Osun state under the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC). The lack of electricity supply in the local communities of Ikoyi, Apomu, Ikire, Gbongan, Moro, Edunabon, Akinlalu, Iwaro et al., of the Isokan, Irewole, Ayedaade et al., Local Government areas of the state has been a major concern which has even brought the attention of the said community monarchs to visit the office of the IBEDC in couple of weeks back [www.ngrguardiannews.com/2015/11/monarchs-protest-power-outage-in-osun-communities/] but yet the issue has been left unresolved.
The provision of adequate power supply is essential to the development of Rural Communities and will also help artisans and Small scale enterprise which is why one of the first major steps taken by the new Ooni of ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II is the provision of transformers for his community [pulse.ng/local/ooni-of-ife-queen-of-england-buhari-others-to-attend-coronation-id4411818.html] as he is a man who knows the importance of this said Infrastructure (Power) to his Community. **I salute him and appreciate his gesture**
Power doesn't just serve as a means of Comfortability for Rural dwellers but it importantly serve as the required facility needed for the processing and storage of Agricultural produce and a lack of which hinders processing and amount to spoilage of many agricultural products.
The communities of Ikoyi, Apomu, Ikire, Gbongan, Moro, Edunabon, Akinlalu, Iwaro et al., which have formally enjoyed a satisfying amount of electricity supply (approx. 12-20hours) in the past before the privatisation of the Electricity Distribution Companies have now been said to have been disconnected from the grid of communities to be supplied electricity due to low income/revenue generated from supplying this communities power, illegal connections and other various reasons know to them.
This act of disconnection from the main grid by the IBEDC is not a good move as it has to a larger extent added to the drowning economy crisis hitting the state as a whole, where civil servants have resolved to Agriculture as a means of survival and yet the lack of power supply is killing the whole process.
It is in this regard that I (we) call on the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), The Honourable Minister of Power, Works and Housing and The Presidency to help find a lasting solution to this issue and also find a means to curtail illegal electrical connection and punish defaulters as I'm sure this type of incidence isn't only affecting the said communities but distributed across the country.
God bless State of Osun!
God bless Nigeria! !
